Incomplete Andreev reflection in a clean SFS junction

We study the stationary Josephson effect in a ballistic superconductor/ferromagnet/superconductor junction for arbitrarily large spin polarizations. Due to the exchange interaction in the ferromagnet, the Andreev reflection is incomplete. We describe how this effect modifies the Josephson current in the crossover from a superconductor/normal metal/superconductor junction to a superconductor/half metal/superconductor junction.     

Stable atomic structure and magnetism of Pt–Cr binary surface alloys on Pt(0 0 1): First-principle calculations

The possibility of Pt–Cr surface alloys formation on Pt(0 0 1) was investigated and their magnetism was calculated by the full-potential linearized augmented plane wave (FLAPW) method with eight different atomic configurations. The most stable structure was calculated to be the Pt-segregated L1₂ ferromagnetic surface alloy. A₃B types (L1₂ or D0₂₂) were more stable compared to AB types (L1₀). It implies that the A₃B type surface alloys may be formed when depositing a monolayer of Cr on Pt(0 0 1). It was found from the total energy calculations that there exists a strong tendency of the Pt segregation. The segregation further stabilizes the surface alloy significantly. The work function of the most stable surface alloy was calculated to be 6.02 eV and the magnetic moment of the surface Cr was much enhanced to 3.3 μ_B. It is a quite interesting finding that the coupling between Cr and Pt atoms on the surface plane is ferromagnetic in the Pt-segregated L1₂ ferromagnetic surface alloy, while the coupling is antiferromagnetic in the bulk.

Zusammenfassung. Optimale Quantisierungen oder – damit ?quivalent – minimale Summen von Momenten spielen in mehreren Zweigen der Mathematik und ihrer Anwendungen eine Rolle. Ausgehend von der Fejes Tóth'schen Ungleichung für Summen von Momenten in der euklidischen Ebene und einem zugeh?rigen Stabilit?tssatz, werden gewisse Erweiterungen auf normierte R?ume und riemannsche Mannigfaltigkeiten h?herer Dimension besprochen. Die Ergebnisse werden dann auf Probleme aus folgenden Bereichen angewendet: (i) Datenübertragung, (ii) Wahrscheinlichkeitstheorie, (iii) numerische Integration, (iv) Approximation konvexer K?rper und (v) isoperimetrische Probleme. Catalytic supports on the base of activated anthracites and synthetic carbons

Selective adsorption of platinum group metals (PMG) on activated carbons from a multi-component model and technological solutions was proposed for the preparation of heterogeneous-supported catalysts. Activated natural anthracites and a nitrogen-containing synthetic carbon are considered as carriers for Pd-supported catalysts. Their catalytic activity was studied in the Pd-catalyzed reactions of hydrogen peroxide decomposition and chloride ions oxidation by manganese(III). On the base of the obtained results, novel high sensitive analytical methods both for direct determination of supported-metal quantity and palladium oxidation states on the surface of spent adsorbents are suggested.     

Energy level alignment between C60 and Al using ultraviolet photoelectron spectroscopy

The energy level alignment between C₆₀ and Al has been investigated by using ultraviolet photoelectron spectroscopy. To obtain the interfacial electronic structure between C₆₀ and Al, C₆₀ was deposited on a clean Al substrate in a stepwise manner. The valence-band spectra were measured immediately after each step of C₆₀ deposition without breaking the vacuum. The measured onset of the highest occupied molecular orbital energy level was located at 1.59 eV from the Fermi level of Al. The vacuum level was shifted 0.68 eV toward lower binding energy with additional C₆₀ layers. The observed vacuum level shift means that the interface dipole exists at the interface between C₆₀ and Al. The barrier height of electron injection from Al to C₆₀ is 0.11 eV, which is smaller value than that of hole injection.     

Two-dimensional micelle formation of polystyrene-poly(vinylpyridine) diblock copolymers on mice surfaces

We have used atomic force microscopy to study the adsorption of PolyStyrene-Poly(VinylPyridine) (PS-PVP) block copolymers from a selective solvent onto atomically smooth mica surfaces. At certain copolymer concentrations, we observe a highly regular array of spherical surface micelles covering macroscopic areas of the substrate surface. Evidence is given for a thin homogeneous layer underneath the micelles which is probably due to adsorption of free copolymer chains and brush formation prior to the formation of the micellar structures. We discuss the quality of the self-assembled structures regarding different types of defects and try to identify means for improving the long range periodicity of the structures.     

Evidence for the poisson distribution for quasi-energies in the quantum kicked-rotator model

A transformation on the two-dimensional torus which is related to the problem of limit distribution for the distance between the levels in the kicked-rotator model is considered. The first four moments of the r.w. which describe the numbers of visits of a point in a rectangle of measure are calculated. It is shown that when 0 they converge to the first four moments of a Poisson r.w.
