Regularization of some linear ill-posed problems with discretized random noisy data

For linear statistical ill-posed problems in Hilbert spaces we introduce an adaptive procedure to recover the unknown solution from indirect discrete and noisy data. This procedure is shown to be order optimal for a large class of problems. Smoothness of the solution is measured in terms of general source conditions. The concept of operator monotone functions turns out to be an important tool for the analysis.

     

Minimax Theorems Involving Two Functions and Strictly Monotone Transformations of Their Values

Two two-function minimax theorems are proved.The concavity-convexity conditions of the twofunctions involve strictly monotone transformations and mixing of the values of the two functions,and aredescribed by the inequalities as upward and weakly downward conditions.

On disjoint configurations in infinite graphs

For a graph A and a positive integer n, let nA denote the union of n disjoint copies of A; similarly, the union of ?₀ disjoint copies of A is referred to as ?₀A. It is shown that there exist (connected) graphs A and G such that nA is a minor of G for all n??, but ?₀A is not a minor of G. This supplements previous examples showing that analogous statements are true if, instead of minors, isomorphic embeddings or topological minors are considered. The construction of A and G is based on the fact that there exist (infinite) graphs G₁, G₂,… such that G_i is not a minor of G_j for all i ≠ j. In contrast to previous examples concerning isomorphic embeddings and topological minors, the graphs A and G presented here are not locally finite. The following conjecture is suggested: for each locally finite connected graph A and each graph G, if nA is a minor of G for all n ? ?, then ?₀A is a minor of G, too. If true, this would be a far‐reaching generalization of a classical result of R. Halin on families of disjoint one‐way infinite paths in graphs. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. QUENCHING PROBLEMS OF DEGENERATE FUNCTIONAL REACTION-DIFFUSION EQUATION

This paper is concerned with the quenching problem of a degenerate functional reaction-diffusion equation. The quenching problem and global existence of solution for the reaction-diffusion equation are derived and, some results of the positive steady state solutions for functional elliptic boundary value are also presented.     

The Generalized KKM Map and Its Applications to Variational Inequalities

In this paper,applying the concept of generalized KKM map,we study problems ofvariational inequalities.We weaken convexity(concavity)conditions for a functional of two variables■(x,y)in the general variational inequalities.Last,we show a proof of non-topological degree meth-od of acute angle principle about monotone operator as an application of these results.     

PERIODIC BOUNDARY VALUE PROBLEM FOR SECOND ORDER FUNCTIONAL DIFFERENTIAL EQUATIONS

This paper investigates the periodic boundary value problems for a class of second order functional differential equations. The monotone iterative technique and the maximum principle are applied to obtain the existence of maximal and minimal solutions.
