The linear dispersion relation of asymmetric electromagnetic modes in the corrugated-wall waveguide is derived and calculated numerically. Collective unidirectional motion of an asymmetrically coupled array of oscillators in symmetric periodic potentials is studied. A directed current is observed when the drift coupling is presented, while no external biased force is applied. Negative directed current is found when varying system parameters. An addition of a periodic rocking force may enhance the efficiency of directed transport. Resonant steps of the current are found and interpreted as the mode locking between the array and the ac force. Noise-assisted transport is observed, and an optimal noise intensity can give rise to a most efficient transport. The directed transport thus can be optimized and furthermore controlled by suitably adjusting the parameters of the system. 相似文献

The paper discusses the design of a low cost Raman spectrometer. Single-walled nanotubes (SWNT) have been studied to demonstrate
the reach of such a system. We observe both the radial-breathing mode (RBM) and the tangential mode from the SWNT. The tube
diameters of the SWNT used in these experiments have been determined using RBM to be predominantly 1.4 and 1.6 nm. These are
consistent with the TEM images taken of the same sample. The new method of producing SWNT using Ni-Y catalyst in electric-arc
discharge method produces nanotubes with very small dispersion in diameter and high yields. The chirality of the SWNT can
be deduced from their radial breathing modes, and it suggests that they are metallic in nature.

A new regularization method is proposed for the Galerkin approximation of the incompressible Navier–Stokes equations with Q1/P0 element, by newly introducing a square‐type linear form into the variational divergence‐free constraint regularized with the global pressure jump (GPJ) method. The addition of the square‐type linear form is intended to eliminate the hydrostatic pressure mode appearing in confined flows, and to make the discretized matrix positive definite and then non‐singular without the pressure pegging trick. Effects of the free parameters for the regularization on the solutions are numerically examined with a 2‐D driven cavity flow problem. Furthermore, the convergences in the conjugate gradient iteration for the solution of the pressure Poisson equation are compared among the mixed method, the GPJ method and the present method for both leaky and non‐leaky 3‐D driven cavity flows. Finally, the non‐leaky 3‐D cavity flows at different Re numbers are solved to compare with the literature data and to demonstrate the accuracy of the proposed method. The modulation of an intense electromagnetic beam induced by the acousto-optic (AO) effect has been analysed in a transversely
magnetised semiconductor-plasma medium. The effect of carrier diffusion on the threshold field and gain profile of the modulated
wave has been extremely investigated using coupled mode theory. The origin of the AO interaction is assumed to lie in the
induced nonlinear diffusion current density of the medium. By considering the modulation process as a four wave parametric
interaction an expression for effective third-order AO susceptibility describing the phenomena has been deduced. The modulation
is greatly modified by propagation characteristics such as dispersion and diffraction due to dielectric relaxation of the
acoustic mode. The threshold pump field and the steady state growth rates are estimated from the effective third-order polarisation
in the plasma medium. Analytical estimation reveals that in the presence of enhanced diffusion due to excess charge carriers
the modulated beam can be effectively amplified in a dispersionless acoustic wave regime. The presence of an external dc magnetic
field is found to be favourable for the onset of diffusion induced modulational amplification of the modulated wave in heavily
doped regime.
