The geometric mean of two matrices from a computational viewpoint

The geometric mean of two matrices is considered from a computational viewpoint. Several numerical algorithms based on different properties and representations of the geometric mean are discussed and analyzed. It is shown that most of the algorithms can be classified in terms of the rational approximations of the inverse square root function. A review of relevant applications is given. Necessary and Sufficient Conditions for Minimax Fractional Programming

We establish the necessary and sufficient optimality conditions for a class of nondifferentiable minimax fractional programming problems solving generalized convex functions. Subsequently, we apply the optimality conditions to formulate one parametric dual problem and we prove weak duality, strong duality, and strict converse duality theorems.     

A new streamline diffusion finite element method for the generalized Oseen problem

This paper aims to present a new streamline diffusion method with low order rectangular Bernardi-Raugel elements to solve the generalized Oseen equations. With the help of the Bramble-Hilbert lemma, the optimal errors of the velocity and pressure are estimated, which are independent of the considered parameter ε. With an interpolation postprocessing approach, the superconvergent error of the pressure is obtained. Finally,a numerical experiment is carried out to confirm the theoretical results.

An Algorithm for the Global Optimization of a Class of Continuous Minimax Problems

We propose an algorithm for the global optimization of continuous minimax problems involving polynomials. The method can be described as a discretization approach to the well known semi-infinite formulation of the problem. We proceed by approximating the infinite number of constraints using tools and techniques from semidefinite programming. We then show that, under appropriate conditions, the SDP approximation converges to the globally optimal solution of the problem.
