The thermodynamics of micellization and other micellar properties of alkyl- (C10-, C12-, C14- and C16-) triphenylphosphonium bromides in water + ethylene glycol (EG) (0 to 30% v/v) mixtures over a temperature range of 298 to 318 K and cetyltriphenylphosphonium bromide in water + diethylene glycol (DEG) mixtures (0 to 30% v/v) at 298 K have been studied conductometrically. In all cases, an increase in the percentage of co-solvent results in an increase in the cmc values. On the basis of these results, the thermodynamic parameters, the Gibbs energy (ΔG mo), enthalpy (ΔH mo) and entropy (ΔS mo) of micellization have been evaluated. In addition to the conductivity measurements, kinetic experiments have also been done to determine the dependence of observed rate constant for the nucleophilic substitution reaction of p-nitrophenyl acetate and benzohydroxamate ions in the presence of the surfactant cetyltriphenylphosphonium bromide with a varying concentration of EG and DEG ranging from 0 to 50% v/v at pH=7.9 and 300 K. All of the reactions followed pseudo-first-order kinetics. An increase in the surfactant concentration results in an increase in the reaction rate and for a given surfactant concentration, the rate constant decreases as the concentration of co-solvent in the mixture increases. The kinetic micellar effects have been explained by using the pseudophase model. The thermodynamic and structural changes originating from the presence of solvents control the micellar kinetic effects.  相似文献

Sodium poly(styrenesulfonate)(polySSNa)-grafted polymer nanoparticles were synthesized by core-cross-linking of block copolymer micelles and subsequent chemical transformation. Block copolymers, poly(p-((1-methyl)silacyclobutyl)styrene-block-poly(neopentyl p-styrenesulfonate)s, polySBS-b-polySSPen, were synthesized by nitroxy-mediated living radical polymerization. The block copolymers formed micelles (Rh=15-23 nm, where Rh represents the hydrodynamic radius) with a polySBS core and polySSPen shell in acetone. The micelle core was cross-linked by ring-opening polymerization of silacyclobutyl groups in polySBS. Hydrolysis of the neopentyl groups provided polySSNa-grafted nanoparticles. The Rh of the particles before the hydrolysis ranged from 12 to 21 nm in acetone, while they varied to the range from 50 to 110 nm in water after the hydrolysis.  相似文献

The diffusion coefficient of disodiumn-decane phosphonate micelles was studied by polarography at 25°C in NaCl and in NaOH solutions, and the size and aggregation number of the micelles was computed as a function of Na+ concentration. All other conditions being equal, the addition of NaCl produces micelles with an aggregation number one order of magnitude larger than the NaOH addition. This is due to the increase of the effective charge per micellized head group produced by the reaction of OH- with the hydrolized head groups which are mainly present as-PO3H- in the micellar Stern layer.  相似文献

The phase behavior and aggregation properties of block copolymers of poly(ethylene oxide)-poly(propylene oxide)-poly(ethylene oxide) (Pluronics, poloxamers) in aqueous solution have recently attracted much attention. Both experimental and theoretical studies are reviewed, not comprehensively, but with the focus on studies, partly cooperative, partly independent, performed by groups in Uppsala (light scattering and fluorescence), Roskilde (rheology and calorimetry), Risø (SANS), Graz (x-ray and speed of sound), and Lund (theoretical model calculations).The phase behavior of these copolymers is similar in many respects to that of conventional nonionic surfactants, with the appearance of hexagonal, cubic, and lamellar liquid crystalline phases at high concentrations. In the isotropic solution phase the critical concentration for micelle formation is strongly temperature dependent, and at a given concentration the monomer to micelle transition occurs gradually over a broad temperature range, partly due to the broad size polydispersity of both the PO- and EO-blocks. For some Pluronic copolymers a transition from globular to long rod-like micelles occurs above a transition temperature, resulting in a strong and sudden increase of viscosity and viscoelasticity of the solution.Size and aggregation numbers have been determined for the globular micelles in some cases, and also the rod-like micelles have been characterized. NMR and fluorescence measurements have provided further information on the properties of the micellar core and mantle. In combination, results from different measurements on the same Pluronics material indicate that the aggregation number of the micelles increases with the temperature, whereas the hydrodynmic radius varies much less. The PEO-mantle of the micelles seems to contract with increasing temperature. The core appears to contain appreciable amounts of PEO in addition to PPO (and also some water). The segregation between core and mantle is not as distinct as in normal micelles, a conclusion which is in line with the predictions from the model calculations.  相似文献

In order to study how the bile salts and lipids behave in the vicinity of microvillus, the transport properties of a sodium salt of deoxycholic acid (NaDC) and its mixture with monooleoylglycerol (MO) through artificial membranes were investigated in 0.15 M NaCl saline solution at 37°C.The hydrodynamic radius of MO-solubilized micelles was estimated to be approximately 17–20 Å from the transport study. The thermodynamically stable MO-NaDC mixed micelles formed above critical micelle concentration in the higher region of mole fraction of NaDC in the mixture (X NaDC>ca. 0.6), can behave as a single species in transport process and freely pass through the porous membranes of both pore sizes, 0.01 m and 0.1 m.The permeabilities of MO-NaDC mixed micelles are large compared with those of pure NaDC micelles. MO molecules solubilized may probably enhance the interaction between MO and NaDC molecules by better contacting with the respective hydrophobic groups in a mixed micelle (the flexible structure of MO molecule enables it), and in this situation, the smaller micelles compared with those of pure NaDC must be more favorable.  相似文献

Summary Computer-assisted procedures for the one-parameter optimization of the surfactant concentration and the concentration of urea or D-glucose as modifiers in micellar electrokinetic capillary chromatography have been developed. These procedures permit a rapid optimization of one parameter on the basis of only two experiments. Predicted values are compared to empirically obtained optimum values. The influence of the modifier concentration on the critical micelle concentration of sodium dodecyl sulfate was experimentally determined in buffers commonly employed in micellar electrokinetic chromatography. The alteration of retention factors of solutes caused by the influence of urea addition on the critical micelle concentration of sodium dodecyl sulfate was calculated under the assumption of constant distribution coefficients and compared to experimentally obtained values. It was demonstrated that the addition of urea or of D-glucose does not alter the phase ratio substantially.  相似文献

All-trns-N-retinylidenetryptamine Schiff base was incorporated into aerosol-OT (AOT, sodium bis(2-ethylhexyl)sulphosuccinate)/heptane reverse micelles. This micellar system was used as a model to study the retinal-tryptophan interactions in retinal proteins. The retinylidene Schiff base remains stable in the presence of reverse micelle-solubilized water pools. Partition coefficient and microviscosity measurements show that the Schiff base is located in the micellar interphase. The results are discussed in terms of the interaction between the retinylidene chromophore and the active site environment of rhodopsin and bacteriorhodopsin. In the present model, the quencher and emitting units are covalently attached, and are separated by two carbon spacer units. The fluorescence emission data obtained for the micelle-intercalated Schiff base chromophore are compared with the fluorescence of the native protein and intermediates in the photochemical cycle of bacteriofhodopsin. A comparison of the data obtained for tryptamine and the Schiff base with the results available for bacteriorhodopsin and bacterioopsin reveals that there is a large degree of quenching on intercalation of the retinylidene chromophore in the vicinity of the fluorophore. Evidence provided by this model suggests that energy transfer to retinal can occur from tryptophan residues located in the retinal pocket in the native protein. Thus the retinylidene unit can act as a quencher of the energy of tryptophan, the nature and extent of which may depend on the conformation and relative orientation of the protein-bound fluorophore.  相似文献

Two new poly(ethylene oxide)-poly(styrene oxide) triblock copolymers (PEO-PSO-PEO) with optimized block lengths selected on the basis of previous studies were synthesized with the aim of achieving a maximal solubilization ability and a suitable sustained release, while keeping very low material expense and excellent aqueous copolymer solubility. The self-assembling and gelling properties of these copolymers were characterized by means of light scattering, fluorescence spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy, and rheometry. Both copolymers formed spherical micelles (12-14 nm) at very low concentrations. At larger concentration (>25 wt%), copolymer solutions showed a rich phase behavior, with the appearance of two types of rheologically active (more viscous) fluids and of physical gels depending on solution temperature and concentration. The copolymer behaved notably different despite their relatively similar block lengths. The ability of the polymeric micellar solutions to solubilize the antifungal drug griseofulvin was evaluated and compared to that reported for other structurally-related block copolymers. Drug solubilization values up to 55 mg g−1 were achieved, which are greater than those obtained by previously analyzed poly(ethylene oxide)-poly(styrene oxide), poly(ethylene oxide)-poly(butylene oxide), and poly(ethylene oxide)-poly(propylene oxide) block copolymers. The results indicate that the selected SO/EO ratio and copolymer block lengths were optimal for simultaneously achieving low critical micelle concentrations (cmc) values and large drug encapsulation ability. The amount of drug released from the polymeric micelles was larger at pH 7.4 than at acidic conditions, although still sustained over 1 day.  相似文献
