We study the degree distribution of the greatest common divisor of two or more random polynomials over a finite field ??q. We provide estimates for several parameters like number of distinct common irreducible factors, number of irreducible factors counting repetitions, and total degree of the gcd of two or more polynomials. We show that the limiting distribution of a random variable counting the total degree of the gcd is geometric and that the distributions of random variables counting the number of common factors (with and without repetitions) are very close to Poisson distributions when q is large. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. We present an adaptive method to extract shape-preserving information from a univariate data sample. The behavior of the signal is obtained by interpolating at adaptively selected few data points by a linear combination of multiquadrics with variable scaling parameters. On the theoretical side, we give a sufficient condition for existence of the scaled multiquadric interpolant. This leads to a derivation system as a system of generalized partial derivatives. This paper presents an algorithm and the supporting theory for solving a class of nonlinear multiple criteria optimization problems using Zionts—Wallenius type of interaction. The Zionts—Wallenius method, as extended in this paper, can be used for solving multiple criteria problems with concave objective and (implicit) value functions and convex feasible regions. Modifications of the method to handle nonconvex feasible regions and general nonlinear objective functions are also discussed.This research was supported, in part, by a Faculty Research Development Award and by a Council of 100 Research Grant from Arizona State University (Roy), and by a grant from Y. Asymptotic expansions of certain finite and infinite integrals involving products of two Bessel functions of the first kind are obtained by using the generalized hypergeometric and Meijer functions. The Bessel functions involved are of arbitrary (generally different) orders, but of the same argument containing a parameter which tends to infinity. These types of integrals arise in various contexts, including wave scattering and crystallography, and are of general mathematical interest being related to the Riemann—Liouville and Hankel integrals. The results complete the asymptotic expansions derived previously by two different methods — a straightforward approach and the Mellin-transform technique. These asymptotic expansions supply practical algorithms for computing the integrals. The leading terms explicitly provide valuable analytical insight into the high-frequency behavior of the solutions to the wave-scattering problems. 相似文献
