We examine the reduced density matrix of the centre of mass on position basis considering a one-dimensional system of Nnoninteracting distinguishable particles in a infinitely deep square potential well. We find a class of pure states of the system for which the off-diagonal elements of the matrix above go to zero as Nincreases. This property holds also for the state vectors which are factorized in the single particle wave functions. In this last case, if the average energy of each particle is less than a common bound, the diagonal elements are distributed according to the normal law with a mean square deviation which becomes smaller and smaller as Nincreases towards infinity. Therefore when the state vectors are of the type considered we cannot experience spatial superpositions of the centre of mass and we may conclude that position is a preferred basis for the collective variable. 相似文献

We report the synthesis and properties of a homologous series of asymmetrically substituted 4-(5-(4-benzyloxyphenyl)-1,3,4-oxadiazol-2-yl)phenyl 2-X-4-dodecyloxybenzoates, which have pronounced hockey-stick molecular architectures. The structure was varied through the lateral substitution with various groups, X (H, Me, MeO, Cl, F) in the outer benzene ring. The effect of the lateral group on liquid crystal phase behaviour was investigated by thermal optical microscopy and differential scanning calorimetry. The quantum theory of nonlinear dynamics and the switching effect for two distributively coupled modes in optical systems has been developed based on the Hartree approximation. The quantum limits for observation of the switching effect for the polarization characteristics of light has been determined. The creation of a new type of nonclassical mesoscopic states of light like the Schrödinger-cat states and mesoscopic qubit/qutrit states is predicted.
