Integral Self-affiine Tiles of Bandt＇s Model

Integral self-affine tiling of Bandt＇s model is a generalization of the integral self-affine tiling. Using ergodic theory, we show that the Lebesgue measure of the tile is a rational number where the denominator equals to the order of the associate symmetry group. We apply the result to the study of the Levy Dragon.

Sequential nonlinear estimation with nonaugmented priors

How can the basic compatibility of theory and observations be investigated for nonlinear processes without requiring stochastic characterizations for residual error terms? The present paper proposes a flexible least-cost approach. For each possible estimatex for the sequence of process states, letc _D (x) andx _M(x) denote the costs incurred for deviations away from the prior dynamic specifications and prior measurement specifications, respectively. Define the cost-efficiency frontier to be the greatest lower bound for the set of all possible cost pairs [c _D (x),c _M(x)], conditional on the given observations. State sequence estimatesx that attain the cost-efficiency frontier indicate the possible ways that the actual process could have developed over time in a manner minimally incompatible with the prior dynamic and measurement specifications. An algorithm is developed for the exact sequential updating of the cost-efficient state sequence estimates as the duration of the process increases and additional observations are obtained.     

A new subspace iteration method for the algebraic Riccati equation

We consider the numerical solution of the continuous algebraic Riccati equation A*X + XA ? XFX + G = 0, with F = F*,G = G* of low rank and A large and sparse. We develop an algorithm for the low‐rank approximation of X by means of an invariant subspace iteration on a function of the associated Hamiltonian matrix. We show that the sought‐after approximation can be obtained by a low‐rank update, in the style of the well known Alternating Direction Implicit (ADI) iteration for the linear equation, from which the new method inherits many algebraic properties. Moreover, we establish new insightful matrix relations with emerging projection‐type methods, which will help increase our understanding of this latter class of solution strategies. Corrigendum to: on the inheritance of the strongly π-extending property

In this corrigendum, we provide correct versions of Theorem 2.8 and Corollary 3.2, retract two consequences of the previous form of the Theorem 2.8. To this end, the main results of the article remain after the aforementioned changes.     

Finite-dimensional global attractors in Banach spaces

We provide bounds on the upper box-counting dimension of negatively invariant subsets of Banach spaces, a problem that is easily reduced to covering the image of the unit ball under a linear map by a collection of balls of smaller radius. As an application of the abstract theory we show that the global attractors of a very broad class of parabolic partial differential equations (semilinear equations in Banach spaces) are finite-dimensional.     

Group invariant solution for a free jet on a hemi-spherical shell

When two circular jets impinge upon each other along the axis of a hemi-spherical shell then a free jet on a hemi-spherical shell is formed. The governing equations are Prandtl’s momentum boundary layer equation and the continuity equation. The conserved quantity is required for the free jet on a hemi-spherical shell. The conserved quantity for the free jet on a hemi-spherical shell is established with the help of a conserved vector. The group invariant solution for the third-order partial differential equation for the stream function is constructed.
