Burst detection in turbulent channel flows based on large eddy simulation databases

As one of the important coherent structures in the near-wall region, turbulent burst is responsible for the production and transport of major turbulent kinetic energy and Rey- nolds stress[1]. Nearly half of turbulent kinetic energy or Reynolds stress is produced in the near-wall region, and 80% flows in outer region only contribute 20% of them. On the nonvanishing of the central value of the Rankin-Selberg -functions

We characterize the nonvanishing of the central value of the Rankin-Selberg -functions in terms of periods of Fourier-Jacobi type. This characterization is based on the Langlands philosophy on functoriality and on applications of invariant theory to automorphic representations. The result is the symplectic analog of the Gross-Prasad conjecture.

     

Cycle Range Distributions for Gaussian Processes Exact and Approximative Results

Wave cycles, i.e. pairs of local maxima and minima, play an important role in many engineering fields. Many cycle definitions are used for specific purposes, such as crest–trough cycles in wave studies in ocean engineering and rainflow cycles for fatigue life predicition in mechanical engineering. The simplest cycle, that of a pair of local maximum and the following local minimum is also of interest as a basis for the study of more complicated cycles. This paper presents and illustrates modern computational tools for the analysis of different cycle distributions for stationary Gaussian processes with general spectrum. It is shown that numerically exact but slow methods will produce distributions in almost complete agreement with simulated data, but also that approximate and quick methods work well in most cases. Of special interest is the dependence relation between the cycle average and the cycle range for the simple maximum–minimum cycle and its implication for the range distribution. It is observed that for a Gaussian process with rectangular box spectrum, these quantities are almost independent and that the range is not far from a Rayleigh distribution. It will also be shown that had there been a Gaussian process where exact independence hold then the range would have had an exact Rayleigh distribution. Unfortunately no such Gaussian process exists.This revised version was published online in March 2005 with corrections to the cover date.     

单摆实验的一种改进方法

通过一种模拟改变重力加速度 g大小的方法来测量单摆的振动周期 T,从而更全面的验证了单摆的振动周期公式 :T=2 π lg 的正确性。     

Modulation of presynaptic nAChRs on postsynaptic GABA receptor in optic tectum of juvenile<Emphasis Type="Italic">Xenopus</Emphasis>

Using the blind patch-clamp technique with the whole-cell mode,we have studied the modulation presynaptic receptor on postsynaptic γ-raminobutyric acid (GABA) receptor measuring miniature inhibitory postsynaptic currents (mIPSCs)in optic tectum of Xenopus during critical peroid.It was demonstrated that compared with mature neurons,mIPSCs recorded from immature neurons had smaller amplitude and longer decay time.mIPSCs are mediated by GABAa receptor.The nicotinic acetylcholine receptor agonists(carbachol,cytisine,nicotine,DMPP and so on) could increase the frequency of mIPSCs.The enhancement of mIPSCs frequency induced by nAChR agonists was calcium-dependent.However,the choline,a product of hydrolyzed acetylcholine,could not increase the frequency of mIPSCs.DH-β-E,a competitive antagonist of nAChR,blocked the increase of mIPSCs frequency induced by carbachol.Mecamyllamine,an α3β4 subtype of nAChR antagonist,also blocked the carbachol-induced enhancement of mIPSCs.On the other hand,MLA,α7 subtype of nAChR antagonist,had no effect on it .Thus,it seems that nAChR could presynaptically modulate the mIPSCs and α3β4 subtype of nAChR might be involved.But α7 nAChR subtype of nAChR would not be involved.The modulation is calcium-dependent.Meanwhile,we found that Ca^2 -free solution could elicit giant PSCs.The frequency of mIPSCs also is related with the level of HP.
