Mechanical Properties of Laterally Driven Microresonance with a One-Side Straight-Leg Suspension

The mechanical properties of lateral polysilicon comb-driven microresonators suspended from one-side straight-leg beams, which are widely used in linear microvibromotors, are investigated in this paper.The lateral vibration of the microresonator was modeled assuming that the symmetry of the microstructures and the applied loads are different. Methods were given to calculate the stress, lateral displacement, spring coefficient, and resonant frequency. The results show that the simple mechanical model is a superfluous system with three unknown variables. The results differ from pervious results for a microresonator suspended from double-side straight-leg beams, which has been commonly used to design linear microvibromotors.     

Load-Carrying Capacity of Circular Plates Made of a Fiber-Reinforced Composite

The load-carrying capacity of circular plates made of a fiber-reinforced composite and loaded with axisymmetric transverse forces under axisymmetric boundary conditions is investigated. The plates can be freely supported or clamped along their contour. To the known yield condition used, in the plane of main bending moments, there correspond irregular hexagons, which depend on the mechanical properties of composite constituents and some characteristic geometrical parameters. It is shown that, depending on the ratio of ultimate radial and circumferential bending moments, in the plastic state, the circular plates (the central part of the clamped plates) take the form of a cone or a frustum of cone. For each of the cases, the limit load is found, which is a function of the above-mentioned mechanical parameters. The statically allowable fields of bending moments and the corresponding allowable fields of deflection rates are determined. The solutions found are exact. Effect of a Shock Pulse on a Floating Ice Sheet

The vibrations of a viscoelastic plate lying on an elastic liquid base subjected to pulse loading have been studied theoretically and experimentally. The effect of the variable depth of the reservoir, plate thickness, and strain relaxation time on the value of the plate vibration amplitude and the length and curvature of the flexural gravity wave profile are analyzed. Good agreement of theoretical and experimental results is obtained.     

Chip-calorimeter for small samples

A method for measuring heat capacities of small samples using a chip-calorimeter and a heat pulse technique is described. The theoretical background to calculate the heat transport properties and the heat capacity of the sample from the pulse response function is given. Problems and potentials of the method are discussed. An example is given.     

大理市土地资源人口承载能力之研究

大理市人地矛盾十分尖锐，深入开展本市土地人口承载力的研究有着很重要的意义。本文在讨论土地承载力研究内容（包括三个部分：（１）土地承载力测算；（２）土地承载力分析；（３）对策与措施的制定）的基础上，测算了本市土地在不同投入水平下的人口承载量，进而分析了本市土地的人口承载状况，划分了不同时期（１９９０年、２０００年、２０３０年）不同投入水平下的土地承载力类型。最后，提出了缓解本市人地矛盾的主要对策和措施。     

Laser pulse heating of steel surface and flexural wave analysis

Laser gas-assisted material processing finds wide application in industry. The modelling of heating, elastic response of the substrate material, and the wave analysis gives insight into the laser workpiece interaction. In the present study, laser gas-assisted heating of steel is considered. The normal component of the thermal stress is taken as the source of load for the flexural wave generation in the material. The flexural wave generated is simulated and the wave characteristics are analyzed at four locations at the workpiece surface. The numerical scheme employing a control volume approach is introduced when solving the governing equations of flow and heat transfer while finite element and spectran element methods are used when solving the stress and wave equations. It is found that the normal component of the stress is tensile. The dispersion effect of the workpiece material, interference of the reflected beam, and partial overlapping of second mode of the travelling wave enable to identify a unique pattern in the travelling wave in the substrate.

An unflexural refined model of deformation of multilayered plates on an undeformable foundation

The stress-strain state of multilayered plates on an undeformable foundation is investigated. The design diagram of a transversely loaded plate is formed by supplementing it with a symmetric one about the contact surface of the foundation. The double-thickness plate obtained becomes loaded bilaterally and symmetrically about its midsurface. In such a way, only unflexural deformations can be modeled, which reduces the number of unknowns and the general order of differentiation of the resolving system of equations. The refined continual model developed takes into account the deformations of transverse shear and transverse compression in high iterative approximations. The cases of a rigid contact between the foundation and the plate and frictionless slip of the plate over the foundation are considered. B 24, 315 (2001) Here we comment on a recently published paper on the presence of a phason contribution in the low temperature heat capacity data of the charge-density-wave compounds K_0.3MoO₃ and (TaSe₄)₂I. We have shown that the anomaly in the C _P / T ³ data reported by Odin et al. is straightforwardly interpreted in terms of low energy phonon modes resulting from the peculiar topology of these compounds.
