Cayley digraphs and lexicographic product

In this paper, we prove that a Cayley digraph Γ = Cay(G, S) is a nontrivial lexicographical product if and only if there is a nontrivial subgroup H of G such that S∖H is a union of some double cosets of H in G.      

Optically Anomalous Crystals

The optical symmetry of many crystals is lower than would be expected from their external form and X-ray diffraction data. Recently such optical anomalies have been attributed to nonequilibrium structures resulting from kinetically controlled crystal growth. Impurities are incorporated to different extents at various surface sites that would otherwise have become symmetry-related within the bulk crystal. After their discovery by Brewster in 1815, optically anomalous crystals were the subject of lively debate throughout the 19th century among some of the most distinguished contributors to the development of crystallography including Biot, Berzelius, Herschel, Mitscherlich, Frankenheim, Pasteur, Mallard, Klein, Groth, Wyrouboff, Barlow, Brauns, Rinne, Pockels, and Friedel. From a sea of wild speculation two conflicting postulates emerged: that the symmetric form resulted from accidental twinning of segments with lower symmetry, or that the optical peculiarities resulted from stress due to impurities or external perturbations. Neither postulate expresses the present view. Interest in this research waned at the turn of the century, and after 1917 no one pursued Tammann's alternative correct insight. The problem of anomalous double refraction attracted no attention for more than half a century until its recent solution. This review discusses both mineral and organic systems with particular emphasis on the phyllosilicate apophyllite and on 1,5-dichloro-2,3-dinitrobenzene. These nonequilibrium structures relate to questions of crystal order, crystal growth, molecular recognition, and the design of new materials. The review provides a reminder of the enduring value of the polarizing microscope as a research tool in chemistry.     

Structural and Optical Characterization of Ytterbium Doped Lutetium Double Phosphates

Powder samples of the ternary phosphates A₃Lu(PO₄)₂:Yb³⁺ (A = Na, Rb) have been synthesised by solid state reactions. The spectroscopic properties of Yb³⁺ in double phosphate host lattices were investigated using absorption, emission and excitation spectra at 4, 10 and 293 K in the VUV to IR range. The results obtained for both types of phosphates are compared. Together with the fundamental ²F_5/2 → ²F_7/2 emission in the IR range, a broad band emission with two peaks in the UV region were observed in Yb³⁺‐activated Na₃Lu(PO₄)₂. The second emission is due to a charge–transfer transition type. The influence of the alkali metal cation site of the host lattice on the luminescence properties was investigated. The tentative energy level scheme of the ground and excited ²F_J (J=7/2, 5/2) levels is described.     

凝胶内沉淀反应的模拟方法研究

目的：用廉价物代替抗IgG血清，既能开出有关实验，又减少了实验开支。方法：用硫酸铝钾和碳酸氢钠做琼脂双向扩散、单向扩散以及对流电泳。结果：三项实验分别出现清晰的沉淀线、沉淀环。采用该模拟方法的廉价试剂，可经济、逼真地开出三项凝胶内沉淀反应。     

在有损耗光纤中双孤子的传播问题

本文研究了光纤的损耗时双孤子的间隔r的影响。本文导出了r随t变化的公式,通过数值计算表明,当r<10w时,w为孤子的半宽度,损耗对r的变化有明显的影响。

A Compact System of Capacitivity Coupled Contactless Conductivity Detection Based on the Square Wave Excitation Signal for Capillary Electrophoresis

This paper reported a compact system of capacitively coupled contactless conductivity detection （C4D） based on the square wave excitation voltage for capillary electrophoresis, and it exhibited excellent sensitivity at the optimal frequency of 198 kHz. The feasibility and sensitivity of this detector was demonstrated by simultaneous detection of thirteen ions including alkali, alkaline earth and heavy metal ions. And the detection limits （S/N 3） were in the range of 0.2-1μmol/L for Mn^2＋, K^＋, Na^＋, Mg^2＋, Ca^2＋, Li^＋, Ba^2＋, and 7-25 μmol/L for Ni^2＋, Cu^2＋, Cd^2＋, Pb^2＋, Co^2＋, Zn^2＋.
