ABA‐type triblock copolymers and AB‐type star diblock copolymers with poly(2‐adamantyl vinyl ether) [poly(2‐AdVE)] hard outer segments and poly(n‐butyl vinyl ether) [poly(NBVE)] soft inner segments were synthesized by sequential living cationic copolymerization. Although both the two polymer segments were composed solely of poly(vinyl ether) backbones and hydrocarbon side chains, they were segregated into microphase‐separated structure, so that the block copolymers formed thermoplastic elastomers. Both the ABA‐type triblock copolymers and the AB‐type star diblock copolymers exhibited rubber elasticity over wide temperature range. For example, the ABA‐type triblock copolymers showed rubber elasticity from about ?53 °C to about 165 °C and the AB‐type star diblock copolymer did from about ?47 °C to 183 °C with a similar composition of poly(2‐AdVE) and poly(NBVE) segments in the dynamic mechanical analysis. The AB‐type star diblock copolymers exhibited higher tensile strength and elongation at break than the ABA‐type triblock copolymers. The thermal decomposition temperatures of both the block copolymers were as high as 321–331 °C, indicating their high thermal stability. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Coefficients of linear thermal expansion (CTE) for poly(propylene)/ poly(propylene)‐grafted‐maleic anhydride/montmorillonite ethylene‐co‐octene elastomer (PP/PP‐g‐MA/MMT/EOR) blend nanocomposites were determined as a function of MMT content and various PP‐g‐MA/organoclay masterbatch ratios. The nanocomposites were prepared in a twin‐screw extruder at a fixed 30 wt % elastomer, 0–7 wt % MMT content, and various PP‐g‐MA/organoclay ratio of 0, 0.5, 1.0, and 1.5. The organoclay dispersion facilitated by the maleated PP helps to reduce the size of the dispersed phase elastomer particles in the PP matrix. The elastomer particle size decreased significantly as the PP‐g‐MA/organoclay ratio and MMT content increased; the elastomer particles viewed // to flow direction (FD) are smaller and less deformed compared to those viewed // to transverse direction (TD). The elastomer particle shape based on the view along the three orthogonal directions of the injection molded sample is similar to a prolate ellipsoid. The CTE decreased significantly in the FD and TD, whereas a slight increase is observed in the normal direction in the presence of MMT and PP‐g‐MA. The Chow model based on a two population approach showed better fit to experimental CTE when the effect of MMT and elastomer are considered individually. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Summary: Amphiphilic cylindrical brush‐coil block copolymers consisting of a polystyrene coil and a cylindrical brush block with poly(acrylic acid) side chains are prepared by ATRP of t‐butylacrylate from a block comacroinitiator. Upon acidolysis of the poly(t‐butylacrylate), water‐soluble polymers were obtained that were observed to form micelles consisting of 4–5 block copolymers on average in aqueous solution. The star‐like nature of such micelles was clearly visualized by scanning force microscopy.

Under dielectric continuum approximation, interface optical (IO) and surface optical (SO) phonon modes as well as the corresponding Fro^ehlich electron-phonon interaction Hamiltonian in a free-standing cylindrical quantum-well wire (QWW) are derived and studied. Numerical calculations on GaAs/AlzGa1-x As cylindrical QWW are performed. Results reveal that there are two branches of IO phonon modes and one branch of SO phonon mode, and the dispersion frequencies of IO or SO phonon modes sensitively depend on the Al mole fraction x in AlzGa1-x As material and the wavevector in z direction, kz. With the increasing of kz and quantum number m, the frequency of each IO mode approaches one of the two frequency values of the single GaAs/AlxGa1-x As heterostructure, and the electrostatic potential distribution of the phonon mode tends to be more and more localized at a certain interface or surface, meanwhile, the coupling between the electron-IO and -SO phonons becomes weaker. 相似文献
