Non-existence of stationary two-black-hole configurations

We resume former discussions of the question, whether the spin–spin repulsion and the gravitational attraction of two aligned black holes can balance each other. To answer the question we formulate a boundary value problem for two separate (Killing-) horizons and apply the inverse (scattering) method to solve it. Making use of results of Manko, Ruiz and Sanabria-Gómez and a novel black hole criterion, we prove the non-existence of the equilibrium situation in question.

A New Critic Approach to the Irony in The Bluest Eye

As the first African American female Nobel laureate for literature, Toni Morrison is one of the most outstanding black writers in contemporary American literature. Her first novel The Bluest Eye, vividly depicts the physical and mental trauma of black people from slavery and the internalization of the white values with the loss of their own identity. The New Criticism advocates the application of tension, irony and paradox in works to generate a resonant effect. This essay intends to explore the strategy of irony used in The Bluest Eye by adopting the New Critic approach. It digs out the various manifestations of irony and investigates its contributions to highlighting the theme and its contextual significance.

Grafting of hyperbranched cyclotriphosphazene polymer onto silica nanoparticle and carbon black surfaces

The surface grafting of hyperbranched cyclotriphosphazene polymer onto silica nanoparticles and carbon black was investigated. The grafting of hyperbranched cyclotriphosphazene polymer onto these surfaces was achieved by the repeated reactions of hexachlorocyclotriphosphazene with hexamethylenediamine from surface amino groups and sodium carboxylate groups, respectively. The percentage of grafting onto silica and carbon black surfaces exceeded 760 and 390%, respectively. However, it proved difficult to achieve the theoretical growth of cyclotriphosphazene polymer from these surfaces because of steric hindrance. The introduction of sulfonic acid groups was successfully achieved by the reaction of terminal chlorophosphazene groups of the hyperbranched polymer‐grafted silica and carbon black with sulfanilic acid. The content of sulfonic acid groups introduced onto silica and carbon black surfaces was 4.98 mmol/g and 5.70 mmol/g, respectively. The sulfonated cyclotriphosphazene polymer‐grafted carbon black was extremely hydrophilic, yielding stable colloidal dispersions in polar solvents. The sulfonated cyclotriphosphazene polymer‐grafted silica and carbon black showed ionic conductivity, with the conductance increasing exponentially with increasing relative humidity and temperature. This study may offer important leads in the application of silica nanoparticles and carbon black in polymeric membranes for fuel cells. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Sampling and analysis of volatile organic compounds in air using a dualsorbent trap

Summary A dualsorbent trap containing graphitized carbon blacks was used for the collection of volatile and semi-volatile organic pollutants from the atmosphere of different workplaces and from an above-ground parking lot. The method proved to be sensitive, simple and reliable. Thermal desorption and solvent extraction methods followed by GC-MS analysis were employed.     

Discussion of thermodynamic data obtained by adsorption gas chromatography of hydrocarbons on carbograph 4

Summary A new graphitized carbon black, Carbograph 4, with a specific surface area of 240 m² g⁻¹ was studied in terms of enthalpy, entropy and free energy of adsorption, determined by gas chromatographic method on a series of alkanes (C₂−C₆) and on benzene. The changes in the isosteric heat and entropy of adsorption when a non-polar stationary phase (squalane) was added to the adsorbent were also investigated. The data obtained are discussed and compared to those present in the literature for other graphitized carbon blacks. Some examples of separations obtained with Carbograph 4 are reported.     

The energy of Einstein-Maxwell dilation-axion black hole in the teleparallel geometry

The energy of the stationary axisymmetric Einstein-Maxwell dilation-axion （EMDA） black hole is studied in the context of the Hamiltonian formulation of the teleparallel equivalence of general relativity （TEGR）. The energy expression for the finite and arbitrary space-like two spheres is exactly computed by means of the integral form of the constraint equations of the formalism naturally without any restriction on the metric parameters. We also show that our results give the same values obtained by other methods for some special cases.
