Herpesviruses establish long-term latent infection for the life of the host and are known to cause numerous diseases. The prevalence of viral infection is significantly increased and causes a worldwide challenge in terms of health issues due to drug resistance. Prolonged treatment with conventional antiviral drugs is more likely to develop drug-resistant strains due to mutations of thymidine nucleoside kinase or DNA polymerase. Hence, the development of alternative treatments is clearly required. Natural products and their derivatives have played a significant role in treating herpesvirus infection rather than nucleoside analogs in drug-resistant strains with minimal undesirable effects and different mechanisms of action. Numerous plants, animals, fungi, and bacteria-derived compounds have been proved to be efficient and safe for treating human herpesvirus infection. This review covers the natural antiherpetic agents with the chemical structural class of alkaloids, flavonoids, terpenoids, polyphenols, anthraquinones, anthracyclines, and miscellaneous compounds, and their antiviral mechanisms have been summarized. This review would be helpful to get a better grasp of anti-herpesvirus activity of natural products and their derivatives, and to evaluate the feasibility of natural compounds as an alternative therapy against herpesvirus infections in humans. 相似文献

In recent years, the hepatotoxicity of Polygoni Multiflora Radix (PMR) has attracted increased research interest. Some studies suggest that anthraquinone may be the main hepatotoxic component. Most of the relevant studies have focused on the mononuclear anthraquinone component rather than binuclear anthraquinones. The hepatotoxicity of dinuclear anthraquinone (dianthrone) was investigated in a cell-based model. Next, a method for the determination of six free and total dianthonones in PMR and PMR Praeparata (PMRP) was established using ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography triple quadrupole mass spectrometry (UPLC-QQQ-MS/MS), which was then used to analyze the collected samples. The data show that four binuclear anthraquinone compounds were hepatotoxic and may be potential toxicity indicators for the safety evaluation of PMR and PMRP. Herein, we describe the synthesis of straight (S) and L-shaped (L) norbornylogous bridges (NBs) with an anthraquinone moiety at the distal end as the redox-active head group and two thiol feet at the proximal end, by which the molecules assemble on gold surfaces. The NB molecules were shown to form self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) with a well-behaved surface redox process. The SAMs were characterized by using in situ IR spectroscopy, cyclic voltammetry, scanning tunnelling microscopy and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. The surface selection rules associated with the IR band intensities allowed the estimation of the position of the anthraquinone moiety with respect to the surface and the tilt of the bridge with respect to the surface normal, both in pure and diluted monolayers. It is shown that the S- and L-NBs hold the plane of the anthraquinone moiety close to the surface normal or the surface tangent, respectively. Neither NB molecule changes its orientation if spaced by diluents on the surface. The difference in the structure of the S- and L-NB SAMs provides a suitable framework for the investigation of factors that govern electron transfer of anthraquinone moieties across self-assembled monolayers with limited structural ambiguity, as compared with the commonly used structurally flexible alkanethiol monolayers. 相似文献

Photogeneration of charge carriers in iodoform has been studied using a high power pulsed dye laser as an excitation source. In the region of 480-640 nm, i.e. that of weak absorption, the magnitude of the photogenerated charge follows a square light intensity dependence in the intensity range employed (up to 1023 photons/cm2s). The spectral dependence of the photogeneration efficiency is similar to that observed for the dc photoconductivity at twice shorter wavelengths; the efficiency drops down, however, rapidly when the tail of the first absorption band of iodoform is approached. A new anthraquinone, morinquinone, together with 18 known anthraquinones were isolated from the stems of Morinda elliptica Ridl. Their structures were elucidated on the basis of spectroscopic data. They each showed weak inhibitory activity against a susceptible strain of Staphylococcus aureus and a methicillin-resistant S. aureus.
