Polycarbonate (PC) was blended with acrylic impact modifiers (AIMs). The effects of modifiers weight fraction on the Izod impact strength and yield strength of PC/AIM blends were investigated. The samples with 4% modifiers were aged under the Tg of PC in an air‐circulating oven, and the effects of aging time on impact strength, yield strength, modulus, elongation at break, post yield stress drop (PYSD) values, and morphology of fracture surface were investigated. The effects of aging time on the shape of stress–strain curve were also investigated. The aged samples were heat‐treated over the Tg of PC to erase the effects of physical aging. It was found that the drop of impact strength caused by physical aging can be recovered, the increment of yield strength and PYSD value caused by physical aging can only be partly recovered, and the heat‐treatment over the Tg of PC caused further increment of modulus. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Aqueous solutions of silicon nanocrystals have been obtained, by sonication, from porous Si (p-Si) aged in air for various times. The photoluminescence of these solutions changes with the aging time of p-Si. These changes correlate with nanocrystal core dimensions, i.e. with the oxidation of the nanocrystals. Infrared spectra show that the reaction with water depends on the age of the starting p-Si sample, since the native superficial oxide layer on p-Si inhibits these reactions.  相似文献

In this paper, we review several important features of the out-of-equilibrium dynamics of spin glasses. Starting with the simplest experiments, we discuss the scaling laws used to describe the isothermal aging observed in spin glasses after a quench down to the low-temperature phase. We report in particular new results on the sub-aging behaviour of spin glasses. We then discuss the rejuvenation and memory effects observed when a spin glass is submitted to temperature variations during aging, from the point of view of both energy landscape pictures and real-space pictures. We highlight the fact that both approaches point out the necessity of hierarchical processes involved in aging. Finally, we report an investigation of the effect of small temperature variations on aging in spin glass samples with various anisotropies which indicates that this hierarchy depends on the spin anisotropy.  相似文献

Changes in the elastic and viscoelastic (creep) characteristics of polymer concrete and its structural components (polyester resin, unfilled or filled with diabase flour) during a long-term exposure to water at 20°C were studied. Modeling the structural changes in polymer concrete with time showed an increase in the relative volume content of pores filled with water and a decrease in that of unfilled pores. Based on the free-volume concept and the data on swelling due to moistening and shrinkage due to physical aging of the binder, a rather accurate estimate of the time-moisture reduction function for polymer concrete was obtained. The function was found to be nonmonotonic: the interval of increase was followed by an interval of decrease.  相似文献

Evaluation of stabilization efficiencies of different antioxidants in polymers at low temperature and relatively short time was performed using incorporation of a prooxidant for catalytic oxidation. Comparisons were made between polypropylene films stabilized with primary antioxidants (Irganox 1076, Irganox 1010, and α‐tocopherol), with or without the prooxidant manganese stearate at different temperatures. A faster degradation was obtained in the presence of a prooxidant than without it. The relative efficiency of the antioxidants at prooxidant acceleration correlated better to low temperature long‐term test than at the thermal acceleration. The results were affected by initial differences in the amounts of the antioxidants present after the processing of the films. These differences were corrected for by a recalculation using microwave‐assisted extraction (MAE) and high performance liquid chromatography analysis from the exponential decrease in the amount of antioxidant in the films. The fastest comparison of the antioxidants efficiency was obtained from oxidation induction times, using total luminescence intensity measurements, but reliable results could also be obtained from the time to apparent failure. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals,Inc. The physical aging of an epoxy resin based on diglycidyl ether of bisphenol-A cured by a hardener derived from phthalic anhydride has been studied by differential scanning calorimetry. The isothermal curing of the epoxy resin was carried out in one step at 130°C for 8 h, obtaining a fully cured resin whose glass transition was at 98.9°C. Samples were aged at temperatures between 50 and 100°C for periods of time from 15 min to a maximum of 1680 h. The extent of physical aging has been measured by the area of the endothermic peak which appears below and within the glass transition region. The enthalpy relaxation was found to increase gradually with aging time to a limiting value where structural equilibrium is reached. However, this structural equilibrium was reached experimentally only at an aging temperature of Tg-10°C. The kinetics of enthalpy relaxation was analysed in terms of the effective relaxation time τeff. The rate of relaxation of the system given by 1/τeff decreases as the system approaches equilibrium, as the enthalpy relaxation tends to its limiting value. Single phenomenological approaches were applied to enthalpy relaxation data. Assuming a separate dependence of temperature and structure on τ, three characteristic parameters of the enthalpic relaxation process were obtained (In A = ?333, EH = 1020 kJ/mol, C = 2.1 g/J). Comparisons with experimental data show some discrepancies at aging temperatures of 50 and 60°C, where sub-Tg peaks appears. These discrepancies probably arise from the fact that the model assumes a single relaxation time. A better fit to aging data was obtained when a Williams-Watts function was applied. The values of the nonexponential parameter β were slightly dependent on temperature, and the characteristic time was found to decrease with temperature. © 1994 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.  相似文献
