Weakly convex sets and modulus of nonconvexity

We consider a definition of a weakly convex set which is a generalization of the notion of a weakly convex set in the sense of Vial and a proximally smooth set in the sense of Clarke, from the case of the Hilbert space to a class of Banach spaces with the modulus of convexity of the second order. Using the new definition of the weakly convex set with the given modulus of nonconvexity we prove a new retraction theorem and we obtain new results about continuity of the intersection of two continuous set-valued mappings (one of which has nonconvex images) and new affirmative solutions of the splitting problem for selections. We also investigate relationship between the new definition and the definition of a proximally smooth set and a smooth set.     

Uniformly optimal graphs in some classes of graphs with node failures

The uniformly optimal graph problem with node failures consists of finding the most reliable graph in the class Ω(n,m) of all graphs with n nodes and m edges in which nodes fail independently and edges never fail. The graph G is called uniformly optimal in Ω(n,m) if, for all node-failure probabilities q∈(0,1), the graph G is the most reliable graph in the class of graphs Ω(n,m). This paper proves that the multipartite graphs K(b,b+1,…,b+1,b+2) are uniformly optimal in their classes Ω((k+2)(b+1),(k²+3k+2)(b+1)²/2−1), where k is the number of partite sets of size (b+1), while for i>2, the multipartite graphs K(b,b+1,…,b+1,b+i) are not uniformly optimal in their classes Ω((k+2)b+k+i,(k+2)(k+1)b²/2+(k+1)(k+i)b+k(k+2i−1)/2).     

A conjecture on the stability of the periodic solutions of Ricker’s equation with periodic parameters

In this work, we propose a conjecture about the stability of the periodic solutions of the Ricker equation with periodic parameters, which goes beyond the existing theory, and for the special case of period-two parameters we analytically show the conjecture is true. For this case we show that the stability region in parameter space obtained from the conjecture is larger than a previously proposed stability region. The period-three case is investigated numerically and similar extensions are realized. This suggests that the current theory cited in this paper, while giving sufficient conditions for stability is far from optimal.     

Hopf bifurcation and stability for a differential-algebraic biological economic system

In this paper, we analyze the stability and Hopf bifurcation of the biological economic system based on the new normal form and the Hopf bifurcation theorem. The basic model we consider is owed to a ratio-dependent predator-prey system with harvesting, compared with other researches on dynamics of predator-prey population, this system is described by differential-algebraic equations due to economic factor. Here μ as bifurcation parameter, it is found that periodic solutions arise from stable stationary states when the parameter μ increases close to a certain limit. Finally, numerical simulations illustrate the effectiveness of our results.     

Explicit periodic solitary wave solutions for the (2 + 1)-dimensional Boussinesq equation

In this paper, (2 + 1)-dimensional Boussinesq equation is investigated. By using homoclinic test method with the aid of Maple, new explicit periodic solitary wave solutions are obtained. Moreover, mechanical feature of wave is exhibited.     

The EHTA for nonlinear evolution equations

Two types of important nonlinear evolution equations are investigated by using the extended homoclinic test approach (EHTA). Some exact soliton solutions including breather type of soliton, periodic type of soliton and two soliton solutions are obtained. These results show that the extended homoclinic test technique together with the bilinear method is a simple and effective method to seek exact solutions for nonlinear evolution equations.     

On transitive topological group actions

We prove a general theorem on transitive topological group actions that give rise to almost ?ech-complete homogeneous spaces. This theorem implies the known open mapping theorems whose proof is a Baire category argument. As an application, we prove the uniform generalized Schönflies theorem generalizing Wright (1969) [19, Theorem 3].     

Demiclosed principle and convergence for modified three step iterative process with errors of non-Lipschitzian mappings

A demiclosed principle is proved for asymptotically nonexpansive mappings in the intermediate sense. Moreover, it is proved that the modified three-step iterative sequence converges weakly and strongly to common fixed points of three asymptotically nonexpansive mappings in the intermediate sense under certain conditions. The results of this paper improve and extend the corresponding results of [M.O. Osilike, S.C. Aniagbosor, Weak and strong convergence theorems for fixed points of asymptotically nonexpansive mappings, Math. Comput. Modelling 32 (2000) 1181-1191; G.E. Kim, T.H. Derivations and local derivations on Freudenthal almost f-algebras

Let A be an Archimedean f  -algebra and let N(A)$N(A)$ be the set of all nilpotent elements of A. Colville et al. [4] proved that a positive linear map d:A→A$d:A\to A$ is a derivation if and only if d(A)⊂N(A)$d(A)\subset N(A)$ and d(A²)={0}$d(A^2)=\{0\}$, where A²$A^2$ is the set of all products ab in A.     

Bifurcations of travelling wave solutions for modified nonlinear dispersive phi-four equation

By using the bifurcation theory of dynamical systems to modified nonlinear dispersive phi-four equation, we analysis all bifurcations and phase portraits in the parametric space, the existence of solitary wave solutions and uncountably infinite many smooth and non-smooth periodic wave solutions is obtained. Under different parametric conditions, various sufficient conditions to guarantee the existence of the above solutions are given. Some explicit exact solution formulas are acquired for some special cases.
