Reverse scans in square wave voltammetry

Reverse scans in square wave voltammetry (SWV) leading to the regeneration of the substance initially present in solution are studied. Widths and peak potentials of waves in SWV performed with both negative and positive potential scans allow us to determine easily the kinetic parameters of a slow electrochemical reaction. The theoretical treatment is verified using the U(V)–U(VI) system in a carbonate medium, which has already been studied by Krulic, Fatouros and Chevalet [J. Electronal. Chem. 251 (1988) 151].     

On Weakly Periodic-Like Rings and Commutativity

A well-known theorm of Jacobson asserts that a ring R with the property that for every x in R there exists an integer n(x) > 1 such that x^n(x) = x is necessarily commutative. With this as motivation, we define an N₀-ring to be a ring which satisfies a weaker hypothesis than the “x^n(x) = x” condition in Jacobson’s Theorem. We consider commutativity of N₀-rings, usually with the additional hypothesis that the ground ring is also weakly periodic-like.

Fast data extrapolating

Data-extrapolating (extension) technique has important applications in image processing on implicit surfaces and in level set methods. The existing data-extrapolating techniques are inefficient because they are designed without concerning the specialities of the extrapolating equations. Besides, there exists little work on locating the narrow band after data extrapolating—a very important problem in narrow band level set methods. In this paper, we put forward the general Huygens’ principle, and based on the principle we present two efficient data-extrapolating algorithms. The algorithms can easily locate the narrow band in data extrapolating. Furthermore, we propose a prediction–correction version for the data-extrapolating algorithms and the corresponding band locating method for a special case where the direct band locating method is hard to apply. Experiments demonstrate the efficiency of our algorithms and the convenience of the band locating method.     

On the classification problem of the quasi-isomorphism classes of free chain algebras

The present paper is devoted to the classification problem of the quasi-isomorphism classes of free differential graded algebras (dgas) over a (P.I.D) R. We introduce the notion of coherent homomorphisms, perfect and quasi-perfect dgas (the Adams-Hilton model of simply connected CW-complex such that H_∗(X,R) is free is a such a dga) and our first main result asserts that two perfect (quasi-perfect) dgas are quasi-isomorphic if and only if their Whitehead exact sequences are coherently isomorphic. Moreover we define the notion of a strong isomorphism between the Whitehead exact sequences and we show that two free R-dgas, of which their Whitehead exact sequences are strongly isomorphic, are quasi-isomorphic.

We present a calculus for those projective-kinematic-chains with three members, where every chain element possesses at each moment three linearly independent poles. As applications we discuss the generation problem for pairs of envelope curves as path-curves and give an extensive treatment of the quasi-hyperbolic chains.
