A UNIFORM NUMERICAL METHOD FOR QUASILINEAR SINGULAR PERTURBATION PROBLEM WITH A TURNING POINT

A nonlinear difference scheme is given for solving a quasilinear siagularly perturbed two-point boundary value problem with a turning point. The method uses non-equidistant discretization meshes. The solution of the scheme is shown to be first order accurate in the discrete L^∞ norm, uniformly in the perturbation parameter.

A Modified Alternating Direction Method for Variational Inequality Problems

The alternating direction method is an attractive method for solving large-scale variational inequality problems whenever the subproblems can be solved efficiently. However, the subproblems are still variational inequality problems, which are as structurally difficult to solve as the original one. To overcome this disadvantage, in this paper we propose a new alternating direction method for solving a class of nonlinear monotone variational inequality problems. In each iteration the method just makes an orthogonal projection to a simple set and some function evaluations. A Globally Convergent and Efficient Method for Unconstrained Discrete-Time Optimal Control

Shift schemes are commonly used in non-convex situations when solving unconstrained discrete-time optimal control problems by the differential dynamic programming (DDP) method. However, the existing shift schemes are inefficient when the shift becomes too large. In this paper, a new method of combining the DDP method with a shift scheme and the steepest descent method is proposed to cope with non-convex situations. Under certain assumptions, the proposed method is globally convergent and has q-quadratic local conve rgence. Extensive numerical experiments on many test problems in the literature are reported. These numerical results illustrate the robustness and efficiency of the proposed method.

Quadratic Convergence of a Long-Step Interior-Point Method for Nonlinear Monotone Variational Inequality Problems

This paper offers an analysis on a standard long-step primal-dual interior-point method for nonlinear monotone variational inequality problems. The method has polynomial-time complexity and its q-order of convergence is two. The results are proved under mild assumptions. In particular, new conditions on the invariance of the rank and range space of certain matrices are employed, rather than restrictive assumptions like nondegeneracy.
