Influence of redox properties on the activity of iron oxide catalysts in dehydrogenation of propane with CO2

Different Fe-containing catalysts (pure Fe₂O₃, Fe₂O₃ supported on active carbon or g-Al₂O₃, and hydrotalcite derived Mg-Fe oxides) were examined in the dehydrogenation of propane performed in an Ar or CO₂ atmosphere at 873 K. A promoting effect of carbon dioxide was found for the Fe₂O₃ and Fe₂O₃/AC samples. The catalytic results are discussed in terms of redox properties of the catalysts determined by temperature-programmed reduction (TPR). Carbon-bromine cleavage by dimethyl sulfoxide: the key step of C(5) functionalization of push-pull 2-alkylidene-4-oxothiazolidine vinyl bromides

Push-pull 2-alkylidene-4-oxothiazolidine vinyl bromides undergo efficient C(5) functionalization through DMSO-assisted carbon-bromine cleavage, followed by a bromine transfer-substitution (or elimination) sequence. A mechanism for this novel transformation is proposed.     

Investigations of Imidazoles. 101. Synthesis of 2,3-Dihydroimidazo[1,2-a]pyrimidine from 2-Aminopyrimidine

Two novel preparative methods have been developed for the synthesis of 2,3-dihydroimidazo[1,2-a]pyrimidine from 2-aminopyrimidine. These are the reaction with 1,2-dibromoethane and also the reaction with ethylene chloro(bromo)hydrin, subsequent treatment of 1--hydroxyethyl-2-imino-1,2-dihydropyrimidine with thionyl chloride, and cyclization of the intermediate 1--chloroethyl-2-imino-1,2-dihydropyrimidine in the presence of sodium hydroxide.

~(13)C核磁共振研究稀土催化剂聚合双烯的机理

用~(13)C-NMR 方法测定了稀土顺丁二烯和聚异戊二烯链端结构及序列结构,从链端结构推测的聚合活性链端结构与前文是一致的。在聚异戊二烯中存在着“头-头”和“尾-尾”结构,这种结构引起活性链端甲基位置的改变,从而解释了稀土异戊二烯中3,4-链节的形成。测定了不同聚合温度对聚合物中顺、反结构含量的影响,可用活性链端的 anti-syn异构化加以解释。     

Synthesis and thermal stability of the resins prepared from the reactions of 1,4-bis(2,2-dicyanovinyl)benzene with aromatic diamines and electrical conductivity of the resulting materials following pyrolysis

New thermosetting resins were prepared from the reaction of 1,4-bis(2,2-dicyanovinyl)benzene with aromatic diamines in varying molar ratios. The thermal stability of these resins was correlated with their composition and the curing conditions. They were stable in N₂ up to 370–448°C and afforded anaerobic char yields of 73–84% at 800°C after curing at 300°C for 20–60 h. The temperature dependence of the electrical resistivity of all resins pyrolyzed at 700°C for 15 h was studied in the temperature range from ?173–327°C (100–600 K). The results showed that at room temperature the unpyrolyzed polymers have insulating properties, whereas a dramatic decrease in the electrical resistivity is observed following pyrolysis. The temperature dependence of the electrical resistivity suggests that all of the materials studied have semiconducting properties. The observed electrical conductivity is thermally activated with activation energies ranging from 0.03–0.06 eV. © 1994 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.     

Poly(methacrylic acid-ethylene glycol dimethacrylate) monolith in-tube solid-phase microextraction applied to simultaneous analysis of some amphetamine derivatives in urine by capillary zone electrophoresis

A method based on in-tube solid-phase microextraction and capillary zone electrophoresis (CZE) was proposed for simultaneously determining four amphetamines (amphetamine, methamphetamine, 3,4-methylenedioxyamphetamine, and 3,4-methylenedioxymethamphetamine) in urine. A poly(methacrylic acid-ethylene glycol dimethacrylate) monolithic capillary column, which can provide sufficient extraction efficiency, was introduced for the extraction of amphetamines from urine samples. The hydrophobic main chains and acidic pendant groups of the monolithic column make it a superior material for extraction of basic analytes from aqueous matrix. After extraction, the samples were analyzed by CZE. The best separation was achieved using a buffer composed of 0.1 M disodium hydrogen phosphate (adjusted to pH 4.5 with 1 M hydrochloric acid) and 20% methanol v/v, with a temperature and voltage of 25 degrees C and 20 kV, respectively. By applying electrokinetic injection with field-amplified sample stacking, detection limits of 25-34 microg/L were achieved. Excellent method of reproducibility was found over a linear range of 0.1-5 mg/L. Determination of these analytes from abusers' urine sample was also demonstrated.     

Enantioselective Morita-Baylis-Hillman (MBH) reaction promoted by a heterobimetallic complex with a Lewis base

A new double-activation catalysis is presented for the Morita-Baylis-Hillman (MBH) reaction of an α,β-unsaturated ketone and an aldehyde by the combined use of a heterobimetallic asymmetric complex and tributylphosphine ((n-Bu)₃P) to afford the α-methylene-β-hydroxy ketone with up to 99% ee.     

One-step electrochemical synthesis of pure poly(2,5-dicyano-p-phenylenevinylene) films

In this communication we describe the electrochemical synthesis of poly(2,5-dicyano-p-phenylenevinylene) (DCNPPV) polymer films on indium tin oxide substrates. We investigate the purity, morphology, absorption and emission properties of the film. The purity was checked by infrared spectroscopy. The film formed presented spectroscopic purity equivalent to the chemically prepared PPV that was dialyzed for one week. Scanning electron microscopy of the surface revealed a grain-like morphology. The absorption and emission spectra showed absorption and emission bands at 420 nm and 575 nm, respectively, with the absorption onset at 422 nm, which corresponds to an energy gap of 2.25 eV. The electrochemical determination of the energy gap gives 2.05 eV, thus quite close to the optical energy gap at the onset of absorption. The EA and IP were determined by electrochemical measurements and are 3.46 eV and 5.51 eV, respectively.
