Some nonlinear problems in servomechanisms

Summary A mathematical model for a hydraulic servomechanism is constructed. It is shown that the model, in general, reduces to a nonlinear third-order equation of the formxx+(₁+xx+–₂ x=p(t). Under certain conditions imposed on the constants involved, it is proved that above equation possesses a periodic solution.     

Optimal error estimates of a locally one-dimensional method for the multidimensional heat equation

For the multidimensional heat equation in a parallelepiped, optimal error estimates inL ₂(Q) are derived. Existence and asymptotic results for a system of integro-partial differential equations

A non-Fourier phase field model is considered. Invariance of the cone algebra without asymptotics

Let B be a manifold with conical singularities, and denote by the smooth bounded manifold with cylindrical ends obtained by blowing up near the singularities.B.-W. Schulze has developed a framework for a pseudodifferential calculus on B by defining various classes of distribution spaces and operator algebras, working in fixed coordinates on the manifold . I am showing here that the Mellin Sobolev spaces without asymptotics, the cone algebra without asymptotics, and its ideal of smoothing operators are independent of the choice of coordinates and therefore may be considered intrinsic objects for manifolds with conical singularities.     

有阻尼Sine－Gordon方程的全局吸引子的维数

本文通过引入新范数,得到有阻尼Ｓｉｎｅ－Ｇｏｒｄｏｎ方程的Ｄｉｒｉｃｈｌｅｔ问题的全局吸引子的维数的一个估计．结果表明：当“阻尼”与“扩散”同时增大或正弦项系数减小时,吸引子的维数减小．特别地,得到了零维吸引子存在的参数条件．     

Optimality of a Threshold Policy in theM/M/ queue with repeated vacations

Consider anM/M/1 queueing system with server vacations where the server is turned off as soon as the queue gets empty. We assume that the vacation durations form a sequence of i.i.d. random variables with exponential distribution. At the end of a vacation period, the server may either be turned on if the queue is non empty or take another vacation. The following costs are incurred: a holding cost ofh per unit of time and per customer in the system and a fixed cost of each time the server is turned on. We show that there exists a threshold policy that minimizes the long-run average cost criterion. The approach we use was first proposed in Blanc et al. (1990) and enables us to determine explicitly the optimal threshold and the optimal long-run average cost in terms of the model parameters.     

Curvature invariants, differential operators and local homogeneity

We first prove that a Riemannian manifold with globally constant additive Weyl invariants is locally homogeneous. Then we use this result to show that a manifold whose Laplacian commutes with all invariant differential operators is a locally homogeneous space.

     

Wiener's test for space-time random walks and its applications

This paper establishes a criterion for whether a -dimensional random walk on the integer lattice visits a space-time subset infinitely often or not. It is a precise analogue of Wiener's test for regularity of a boundary point with respect to the classical Dirichlet problem. The test obtained is applied to strengthen the harder half of Kolmogorov's test for the random walk.

     

Local canonical correlation coefficients and canonical variables of groups of random variables

The concepts of local correlation coefficient, local canonical correlation coefficients and local canonical variables of groups of random variables are defined, which generalize the classical concepts in two groups of random variables.These concepts together with total corresponding concepts clarify the correlativity among groups of random variables.     

非线性摄动电报方程初值问题的渐近理论

对一类二阶半线性摄动电报方程,给出了一个渐近方法,证明了解的渐近理论及形式近似解的合理性都在时间变量无穷大时（０≤ｔ≤Ｏ（｜ε｜－１））成立,并推广了赖绍永的工作［应用数学及力学,１９９７,１８（７）：６１１～６１６］．
