Reservoir operations optimization via fuzzy criterion decision processes

In this paper, we propose the treatment of complex reservoir operation problems via our newly developed tool of fuzzy criterion decision processes. This novel approach has been shown to be a more flexible and useful analysis tool especially when it is desirable to incorporate an expert’s knowledge into the decision models. Additionally, it has been demonstrated that this form of decision models will usually result in an optimal solution, which guarantees the highest satisfactory degree. We provide a practical exemplification procedure for the models presented as well as an application example.     

A Study on Stripping Voltammetric Determination of Osmium(IV) at a Carbon Paste Electrode Modified In Situ with Cationic Surfactants

This article deals with the development of a method for the determination of osmium at a carbon paste electrode (CPE) modified with cationic surfactants of the quaternary ammonium salt type; namely, cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) and 1‐(ethoxycarbonyl)‐pentadecyltrimethyl‐ammonium bromide (Septonex); both being added in situ and serving for preconcentration of osmium via its hexachloroosmate(IV) anion. The proper electrochemical detection was performed by cathodic scanning in the differential pulse voltammetric mode. Optimization studies concerning important experimental parameters also included a specially performed potentiometric titration, helping to define the actual stoichiometry for the ion‐pairing process, the main principle and driving force of the accumulation step. In a chloride/acetate buffer based supporting medium and with Septonex as the modifier of choice, the reduction signal for osmium was found to be proportional to the Os(IV) concentration in a range from 5×10^?9 to 5×10^?7 mol L^?1 with a limit of detection close to 5×10^?9 mol L^?1 (with preconcentration for 60 s). The method capable to determine Os(IV) in the presence of both Pt(IV) and Ir(III) was tested on model solutions as well as with real sample of industrial waste water (spiked with the analyte); both yielding the recovery rates within 88–99%.

The property of being polynomial for Mal’tsev constraint satisfaction problems

A combinatorial constraint satisfaction problem aims at expressing in unified terms a wide spectrum of problems in various branches of mathematics, computer science, and AI. The generalized satisfiability problem is NP-complete, but many of its restricted versions can be solved in a polynomial time. It is known that the computational complexity of a restricted constraint satisfaction problem depends only on a set of polymorphisms of relations which are admitted to be used in the problem. For the case where a set of such relations is invariant under some Mal’tsev operation, we show that the corresponding constraint satisfaction problem can be solved in a polynomial time. __________ Translated from Algebra i Logika, Vol. 45, No. 6, pp. 655–686, November–December, 2006.     

Investigation of the electrocatalytic behavior of single-wall carbon nanotube films on an Au electrode

The voltammetric behavior of uric acid (UA) was studied with an Au electrode modified with single-wall carbon nanotubes (SWNTs). In 0.1 M HAc-NaAc buffer solution (pH 5.0), the SWNT-modified electrode shows high electrocatalytic activity toward UA oxidation. The electro-oxidation of UA is an irreversible diffusion-controlled process with a diffusion coefficient (D) of 8.85×10⁻⁶ cm² s⁻¹. The peak current increases linearly with the concentration of UA in the range of 4.0×10⁻⁶-7.0×10⁻⁴ M. The detection limit is 1.0×10⁻⁶ M. The SWNT was characterized with scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Furthermore, the SWNT-modified electrode has favorable electrocatalytic activity toward dopamine and norepinephrine. This SWNT-modified electrode can also separate the electrochemical responses of uric acid, norepinephrine and ascorbic acid.     

Efficient conjugation and preferential DNA binding of oligonucleotides containing 2′-O-(2-oxoethyl)arabinouridine

Oligodeoxyribonucleotides were synthesized that contain a novel nucleoside, 2′-O-(2-oxoethyl)arabinouridine. Whereas such oligonucleotides showed only a slight reduction in the T_M values of their complexes with complementary DNA, a significant destabilization was observed in the case of duplexes formed with RNA. This may be explained by the C_2′-endo conformation of 2′-O-(2,3-dihydroxypropyl)arabinouridine as demonstrated by NMR experiments in D₂O. The modified oligonucleotides were used to synthesize a number of conjugates with dyes, biotin and a N-modified laminin peptide, by hydrazone and oxime formation. We suggest that the 2′-arabinoaldehyde-containing DNA duplexes may be valuable tools for affinity modification of DNA-binding proteins.

考察了中性分子电对Ｈ_２Ｑ／Ｑ在１３Ｘ型分子筛修饰电极上的电化学行为。发现Ｈ_２Ｑ／Ｑ电对在修饰电极上电响应迅速，为双电子可逆反应，不受溶液温度及电极与溶液相对运动的影响，而与溶液的ｐＨ值有关。当ｐＨ≤２．０时，修饰电极对Ｈ_２Ｑ／Ｑ电对的氧化／还原有明显的催化作用．
