Transition-Metal Complexes with Nano-Sized Phosphine and Pyridine Ligands-Catalysis,Fluxional Behavior and Molecular Recognition

Nano-sized phosphine and pyridine ligands having tetraphenylphenyl-, m-terphenyl-, poly(benzylether) moieties were synthesized. These ligands showed a remarkable effect on homogeneous transition metal catalyzed reactions. Pd(II) complexes with tetraphenylphenyl substituted pyridine ligands show high catalytic activities for oxidation of ketones suppressing Pd black formation and maintains the catalytic activity for a long time. Rh(I) complex catalysts with m-terphenyl substituted phosphine ligands showed remarkable rate acceleration in the hydrosilylation of ketones. In addition, several phosphinocalixarene ligands were synthesized and their coordination studies with Pd(II), Pt(II), Ru(II), Ir(I), and Rh(I) metals were documented. Ir(I) and Rh(I) cationic complexes with a 1,3,5-triphosphinocalix[6]arene ligand showed dynamic behavior with size-selective molecular recognition.     

Synthesis and reactivity of thieno[2,3-<Emphasis Type="Italic">b</Emphasis>]pyridine-2,3-diamines

It has been established that the interaction of N¹-(2-hydroxyphenylmethylthieno[2,3-b]pyrid-3-yl)arylamides with hydrazine hydrate leads to thieno[2,3-b]pyridine-2,3-diamines. Synthesis of novel dipyrazolo[3,4-b:3,4-d]pyridines and study of their fluorescence behavior

A convenient route was successfully developed for the synthesis of novel heterocycles such as pyrazolo[3,4-h][1,6]naphthyridine and dipyrazolo[3,4-b:3,4-d]pyridine (DPP) from pyrazolo[3,4-b]pyridine in good yield. The DPP derivatives synthesized were further studied for their fluorescence properties.     

Synthesis of model linear tetrablock quaterpolymers and pentablock quintopolymers of ethylene oxide

Multiblock copolymers of ethylene oxide, with four and five different blocks, were synthesized by the sequential anionic polymerization of styrene, isoprene, 2-vinyl pyridine, t-butyl methacrylate, and ethylene oxide with benzyl potassium as an initiator. The monomer sequence was based on the relative nucleophilicity of the active centers. Characterization of the multiblock copolymers by size exclusion chromatography (with refractive-index and UV detectors), membrane osmometry, and NMR spectroscopy confirmed that benzyl potassium is an efficient initiator for the synthesis of well-defined multiblock multicomponent copolymers of ethylene oxide. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Polyvinyl pyridines as flocculating agents

Summary High molecular weight poly 2- and 4-vinyl pyridines were synthesized by ionic polymerisation and their flocculation efficiency tested against kaolin and silica dispersions at pH 3. Low additions of the polymers, around 3 parts per 10₃ parts solid, destabilize the dispersions and clarify silica dispersions to a remarkable extent; however, over-addition of polymer leads to partial restabilization. The flocculation efficiency improves with increase of solids content, especially with clay dispersions. Flocculation efficiency increases with polymer molecular weight, especially over the lower part of the range covered, but is relatively independent of pH in the range 2–4. Quaternization of poly(4-vinyl pyridine) with bromobutane produces a good flocculant for aqueous silica dispersions in which the degree of restabilization on over-dosing depends on the KCI content. TheN-oxide derivatives of the vinyl pyridine polymers do not affect the colloidal stability of silica dispersions. The observations are interpreted in terms of bridging flocculation by the cationic polymer molecules between anionic surface sites on the solid particles.     

Synthesis ad Some Conversions of Partially Hydrogenated 1-Aminopyrano(thiopyrano)[4,3-d]pyrazolo[3,4-b]pyridines and Pyrazolo[3,4-c]isoquinolines

We have synthesized derivatives of pyrano(thiopyrano)[4,3-d]pyrazolo[3,4-b]pyridine and pyrazolo[3,4-c]isoquinoline, and we have also carried out some conversions with them.

Interaction of vinylpyridines with 1,3-dienes catalyzed by transition metal complexes

The linear and cyclic cooligomerization of 2-vinyl-, 2-methyl-5-vinyl-, and 4-vinylpyridines with 1,3-dienes and trienes catalyzed by complexes of transition metals (Fe, Co, Ni, Mn, Cr, Pd, Ru, Rh, and Zr) was carried out to give unsaturated pyridines containing alkenyl and cycloalkenyl substituents.Translated fromIzvestiya Akademii Nauk. Thermodynamics of liquid mixtures containing n-alkanes and strongly polar components: VE and C P E of mixtures with either pyridine or piperidine

Excess molar volumes V _E and excess molar heat capacities C _P ^/E at constant pressure have been obtained, as a function of mole fraction x₁, for several binary liquid mixtures belonging either to series I: pyridine+n-alkane (C_lH_2l+2), with l=7, 10, 14, 16, or series II: piperidine+n-alkane, with l=7, 8, 10, 12, 14. The instruments used were a vibrating-tube densimeter and a Picker flow microcalorimeter, respectively. V ^E of pyridine+n-heptane shows a S-shaped composition dependence with a small negative part in the region rich in pyridine (x₁>0.90). All the other systems show positive V ^E only. The excess volumes increase with increasing chain length l of the n-alkane. The excess molar heat capacities of the mixtures belonging to series II are all negative, except for a small positive part for piperidine+n-heptane in the region rich in piperidine (x₁>0.87). The C _P ^/E at the respective minima, C _P ^/E (x_1,min ), become more negative with increasing l, and the x_1,min values range from about 0.26 (l=7) to 0.39 (l=14). Most interestingly, mixtures of series I exhibit curves of C _P ^/E against x₁ with two minima and one maximum, the so-called W-shape curves.Dedicated to Professor A.
