Motzkin decomposition of closed convex sets

Theodore Motzkin proved, in 1936, that any polyhedral convex set can be expressed as the (Minkowski) sum of a polytope and a polyhedral convex cone. This paper provides five characterizations of the larger class of closed convex sets in finite dimensional Euclidean spaces which are the sum of a compact convex set with a closed convex cone. These characterizations involve different types of representations of closed convex sets as the support functions, dual cones and linear systems whose relationships are also analyzed in the paper. The obtaining of information about a given closed convex set F and the parametric linear optimization problem with feasible set F from each of its different representations, including the Motzkin decomposition, is also discussed.     

Bifurcation points for a reaction-diffusion system with two inequalities

We consider a reaction-diffusion system of activator-inhibitor or substrate-depletion type which is subject to diffusion-driven instability. We show that obstacles (e.g. a unilateral membrane) for both quantities modeled in terms of inequalities introduce a new bifurcation of spatially non-homogeneous steady states in the domain of stability of the trivial solution of the corresponding classical problem without obstacles.     

Interpolation inequality of logarithmic type in abstract Besov spaces and an application to semilinear evolution equations

An abstract version of Besov spaces is introduced by using the resolvent of nonnegative operators. Interpolation inequalities with respect to abstract Besov spaces and generalized Lorentz spaces are obtained. These inequalities provide a generalization of Sobolev inequalities of logarithmic type. Uniqueness problems to abstract semilinear evolution equations are also discussed (© 2010 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)     

Log-convexity and log-concavity of hypergeometric-like functions

We find sufficient conditions for log-convexity and log-concavity for the functions of the forms a?∑fkk(a)xk, a?∑fkΓ(a+k)xk and a?∑fkxk/k(a). The most useful examples of such functions are generalized hypergeometric functions. In particular, we generalize the Turán inequality for the confluent hypergeometric function recently proved by Barnard, Gordy and Richards and log-convexity results for the same function recently proved by Baricz. Besides, we establish a reverse inequality which complements naturally the inequality of Barnard, Gordy and Richards. Similar results are established for the Gauss and the generalized hypergeometric functions. A conjecture about monotonicity of a quotient of products of confluent hypergeometric functions is made.     

Stability in cellular neural networks with a piecewise constant argument

In this paper, by using the concept of differential equations with piecewise constant arguments of generalized type [1], [2], [3] and [4], a model of cellular neural networks (CNNs) [5] and [6] is developed. The Lyapunov-Razumikhin technique is applied to find sufficient conditions for the uniform asymptotic stability of equilibria. Global exponential stability is investigated by means of Lyapunov functions. An example with numerical simulations is worked out to illustrate the results.     

Projected subgradient techniques and viscosity methods for optimization with variational inequality constraints

In this paper, we propose an easily implementable algorithm in Hilbert spaces for solving some classical monotone variational inequality problem over the set of solutions of mixed variational inequalities. The proposed method combines two strategies: projected subgradient techniques and viscosity-type approximations. The involved stepsizes are controlled and a strong convergence theorem is established under very classical assumptions. Our algorithm can be applied for instance to some mathematical programs with complementarity constraints.     

Well-posedness by perturbations of mixed variational inequalities in Banach spaces

In this paper, we consider an extension of the notion of well-posedness by perturbations, introduced by Zolezzi for a minimization problem, to a mixed variational inequality problem in a Banach space. We establish some metric characterizations of the well-posedness by perturbations. We also show that under suitable conditions, the well-posedness by perturbations of a mixed variational inequality problem is equivalent to the well-posedness by perturbations of a corresponding inclusion problem and a corresponding fixed point problem. Also, we derive some conditions under which the well-posedness by perturbations of a mixed variational inequality is equivalent to the existence and uniqueness of its solution.     

Bounds for complete elliptic integrals of the first kind

In this note by using some elementary computations we present some new sharp lower and upper bounds for the complete elliptic integrals of the first kind. These results improve some known bounds in the literature and are deduced from the well-known Wallis inequality, which has been studied extensively in the last 10 years.

研究具有时变滞后与Markov跳跃的随机系统的鲁棒随机稳定性与H_∞分析.通过引进随机Liapunov-Krasovskii泛函,使用自由权矩阵技术(即何技术),得到时滞依赖鲁棒随机稳定性与H_∞扰动衰减的线性矩阵不等式判据.3个数值例子说明提供的方法是有效的,并且与相关文献中存在的一些结果相比是低保守的.     

有限连续拓扑空间上的相交定理和广义变分不等式

根据已知的FC-空间上的KKM型定理得出若干个相交定理,作为它们的应用,利用转移开闭映射的特征讨论广义变分不等式解的存在问题.本文的结果改进和推广了文献中的相应结论.
