Let X be a quasi‐Banach space, Y be a γ‐Banach space and T be a bounded linear operator from X into Y . In this paper, we prove that the first outer entropy number of T lies between and ; more precisely, , and the constant is sharp. Moreover, we show that there exist a Banach space X 0, a γ‐Banach space Y 0 and a bounded linear operator such that for all positive integers k . Finally, the paper also provides two‐sided estimates for entropy numbers of embeddings between finite dimensional symmetric γ‐Banach spaces.  相似文献

A weakly nonlinear plane acoustic wave is emitted into an ideal gas of semi-infinite extent from an infinite plate by its sinusoidal motion of single period. The wave develops into anN wave in the far field, as long as the energy dissipation is negligible everywhere except for discontinuous shock fronts. The third-order effects at shock fronts are evaluated, i.e., the generation of reflected acoustic wave as a result of the interaction of shock and expansion wave and the production of entropy by the energy dissipation at shock fronts. Consideration of these effects enables one to estimate the whole mass, momentum and total excess energy (sum of the kinetic energy and excess of internal energy over an initial undisturbed value) transported by theN wave to the accuracy of third order of wave amplitude. It is shown that the mass and total excess energy transported by theN wave increase and the momentum decreases to asymptotic limits as the wave propagates. The result shows good agreement with a numerical result obtained by solving the Euler equations with a high-resolution TVD upwind scheme.  相似文献

A new widely applicable model for the prediction of the entropy of melting of organic compounds is presented. The use of three simple geometry based parameters: rotational symmetry, flexibility, and eccentricity enables the simple and accurate prediction of this important property. In this paper we investigate the mathematical theory of Hughes' model for the flow of pedestrians (cf. Hughes (2002) [17]), consisting of a non-linear conservation law for the density of pedestrians coupled with an eikonal equation for a potential modelling the common sense of the task. For such an approximated system we prove existence and uniqueness of entropy solutions (in one space dimension) in the sense of Kru?kov (1970) [22], in which the boundary conditions are posed following the approach of Bardos et al. (1979) [7]. We use BV estimates on the density ρ and stability estimates on the potential ? in order to prove uniqueness. Furthermore, we analyze the evolution of characteristics for the original Hughes' model in one space dimension and study the behavior of simple solutions, in order to reproduce interesting phenomena related to the formation of shocks and rarefaction waves. The characteristic calculus is supported by numerical simulations.  相似文献

Glasner and Weiss have shown that a generic homeomorphism of the Cantor space has zero topological entropy. Hochman has shown that a generic transitive homeomorphism of the Cantor space has the property that it is topologically conjugate to the universal odometer and hence far from being chaotic in any sense. We show that a generic self-map of the Cantor space has zero topological entropy. Moreover, we show that a generic self-map of the Cantor space has no periodic points and hence is not Devaney chaotic nor Devaney chaotic on any subsystem. However, we exhibit a dense subset of the space of all self-maps of the Cantor space each element of which has infinite topological entropy and is Devaney chaotic on some subsystem.  相似文献

A system-theoretic approach to cooperation, interaction and allocation is presented that simplifies, unifies and extends the results on classical cooperative games and their generalizations. In particular, a general Weber theory of linear values is obtained and a new theory for local cooperation and general interaction indices is established. The model is dynamic and based on the notion of states of cooperation that change under actions of agents. Careful distinction between “local” states of cooperation and general “system” states leads to a notion of entropy for arbitrary non-negative and efficient allocations and thus to a new information-theoretic criterion for fairness of allocation mechanisms. Shapley allocations, for instance, are exhibited as arising from random walks with maximal entropy. For a large class of cooperation systems, a characterization of game symmetries in terms of λ-values is given. A concept for cores and Weber sets is proposed and it is shown that a Weber set of a game with selection structure always contains the core.  相似文献

This paper presents an extension of the application of the concept of entropy to annuity costs. Keyfitz (1985) introduced the concept of entropy, and analysed this in the context of continuous changes in life expectancy. He showed that a higher level of entropy indicates that the life expectancy has a greater propensity to respond to a change in the force of mortality than a lower level of entropy. In other words, a high level of entropy means that further reductions in mortality rates would have an impact on measures like life expectancy. In this paper, we apply this to the cost of annuities and show how it allows the sensitivity of the cost of a life annuity contract to changes in longevity to be summarized in a single figure index.  相似文献

In the study, a second law analysis for a steady-laminar flow of water in adiabatic microtubes has been conducted. Smooth microtubes with the diameters between 50 and 150 μm made of fused silica were used in the experiments. Considerable temperature rises due to viscous dissipation and relatively high pressure losses of flow were observed in experiments. To identify irreversibility of flow, rate of entropy generation from the experiments have been determined in the laminar flow range of Re = 20-2200. The second law of thermodynamics was applied to predict the entropy generation. The results of model taken from the literature, proposed to predict the temperature rise caused by viscous heating, correspond well with the experimental data. The second law analysis results showed that the flow characteristics in the smooth microtubes distinguish substantially from the conventional theory for flow in the larger tubes with respect to viscous heating/dissipation (temperature rise of flow) total entropy generation rate and lost work.  相似文献

Local and category-theoretical entropies associated with an endomorphism of finite length (i.e., with zero-dimensional closed fiber) of a commutative Noetherian local ring are compared. Local entropy is shown to be less than or equal to category-theoretical entropy. The two entropies are shown to be equal when the ring is regular, and also for the Frobenius endomorphism of a complete local ring of positive characteristic.Furthermore, given a flat morphism of Cohen–Macaulay local rings endowed with compatible endomorphisms of finite length, it is shown that local entropy is “additive”. Finally, over a ring that is a homomorphic image of a regular local ring, a formula for local entropy in terms of an asymptotic partial Euler characteristic is given.  相似文献
