A reduced simulation applied to the viscoelastic fatigue of polymers

The paper extends the use of the PGD method to viscoelastic evolution problems described by a large number of internal variables and with a large spectrum of relaxation times. The internal variables evolution is described by a set of linear differential equations that involve many time scales. The feasibility and the robustness of the method are discussed in the case of a polymer in a non-equilibrium state under creep and cyclic loading. The relationships between different time scales (loading and internal variables) are also discussed.     

Nitrile Rubber Reactor Operation Troubleshooting with Principal Component Analysis

Principal Component Analysis (PCA) is employed as a tool in order to demonstrate yet another application of the technique, and, most importantly, to show that results from the statistical multivariate technique do make physico-chemical sense. The operation of a typical emulsion copolymerization of acrylonitrile and butadiene (nitrile butadiene rubber, NBR) is used as an example of process troubleshooting. In more general terms, a statistical tool is used to aid process data analysis and process operation (recipe, product property) troubleshooting.

The goal is to produce consistent Mooney Viscosity (MV) among different batches. The observation is that varying induction times lead to Mooney Viscosity inconsistencies. Firstly, we show results from the application of PCA to process data. Secondly, we deal with an even more important (and often ignored) question by examining whether the trends indicated by PCA make process sense.     

Non parametric estimation of the diffusion coefficients of a diffusion with jumps

In this article, we consider a jump diffusion process ${\left(X_t\right)}_{t\ge 0}$, with drift function $b$, diffusion coefficient $\sigma$ and jump coefficient ${\xi }^2$. This process is observed at discrete times $t=0,\Delta ,\dots ,n\Delta$. The sampling interval $\Delta$ tends to 0 and the time interval $n\Delta$ tends to infinity. We assume that ${\left(X_t\right)}_{t\ge 0}$ is ergodic, strictly stationary and exponentially $\beta$-mixing. We use a penalized least-square approach to compute adaptive estimators of the functions ${\sigma }^2+{\xi }^2$ and ${\sigma }^2$. We provide bounds for the risks of the two estimators.

Structural response of high solidity net cage models in uniform flow

Hydrodynamic loads acting on a fish farm may be affected by the growth of different biofouling organisms, mainly due to increased solidity of the nets. In this paper, the hydrodynamic loads acting on high solidity net cage models subjected to high uniform flow velocities and the corresponding deformation of the net cages are studied. Model tests of net cylinders with various solidities were performed in a flume tank with a simulated current. Standard Morison-type numerical analyses were performed based on the model tests, and their capability of simulating the occurring loads and the observed net cage deformations for different flow velocities was evaluated.Large deformations of the net cage models were observed, and at high velocities the deformations were close to what is physically possible. Net cage deformation appeared to be less dependent on solidity than on flow velocity and weights. Drag forces increased with increasing flow velocity and were dependent on both bottom weights and netting solidity. For the lowest solidity net, drag forces were close to proportional to flow velocity. For the three high solidity nets, the measured drag forces were of similar magnitude, and drag increased less with increasing flow velocity above approximately 0.5 m/s than at lower velocities.This study shows that a basic reduced velocity model is not sufficient to model the interaction between the fluid flow and net (hydroelasticity) for high solidity net cages subjected to high flow velocities.The standard numerical analysis was in general able to make good predictions of the net shape, and was capable of making an acceptable estimate of hydrodynamic loads acting on the lowest solidity net model (Sn=0.19). For high solidities and large deformations, numerical tools should account for changes in water flow and the global drag coefficient of the net.

Muon g-2 discrepancy:new physics or a relatively light Higgs?

After a brief review of the muon g-2 status,we discuss hypothetical errors in the Standard Model prediction that might explain the present discrepancy with the experimental value.None of them seems likely.In particular,a hypothetical increase of the hadroproduction cross section in low-energy e+e-collisions could bridge the muon g-2 discrepancy,but it is shown to be unlikely in view of current experimental error estimates.If,nonetheless,this turns out to be the explanation of the discrepancy,then the 95% CL upper bound on the Higgs boson mass is reduced to about 135 GeV which,in conjunction with the experimental 114.4 GeV 95%CL lower bound,leaves a narrow window for the mass of this fundamental particle.

在有关成果数据库(2000~2006年)的基础上,运用投影寻踪模型分析我国国防科技工业的科研创新能力,结论认为:我国科技工业科研创新能力在最近这几年是逐年提高,进步显著;但与发达国家相比,我国国防科技工业自主创新能力还不够强,距离创新型国防科技工业还有较大的差距。     

关于Polya罐子模型的几个结论

在Polya罐子模型中,分别以Xn,Sn表示第n次抽球并放回后罐中的黑球比例数和在前n次抽球中抽到黑球的次数,得到了Sn/n的极限分布为贝塔分布以及E（Xn）等于E（X∞）,D（Xn）不等于D（X∞）等几个重要结论,并分别运用概率论知识和随机过程的鞅理论知识从不同角度证明结论.
