We consider a competitive version of the traditional aggregate production planning model with capacity constraints. In the general case, multiple products are produced by a few competing producers (oligopoly) with limited capacities. Production quantities, prices and consequently profits depend on production and allocation decisions of each producer. In addition, there is competition for the raw material whose supplies are limited, and where prices reflect these limitations. Such situations have recently occurred in several process industry settings including petro-refining, petrochemicals, basic chemicals, cement, fertilizers, pharmaceuticals, rubber, paper, food processing and metals. We use a successive “Bertrand–Cournot” framework to address this problem and to determine optimal production quantities, prices and profits at the producers and at the raw material supplier. Our analysis allows a new way to understand and evaluate the marginal value of additional capacity when there is competition for the market and raw materials.  相似文献

McKee: Competition multigraphs and the multicompetition number, Ars Combinatoria 29B (1990) 185-192] as a generalization of the competition graphs of digraphs.In this note, we give a characterization of competition multigraphs of arbitrary digraphs and a characterization of competition multigraphs of loopless digraphs. A chain wants to set up a single new facility in a planar market where similar facilities of competitors, and possibly of its own chain, are already present. Fixed demand points split their demand probabilistically over all facilities in the market proportionally with their attraction to each facility, determined by the different perceived qualities of the facilities and the distances to them, through a gravitational or logit type model. Both the location and the quality (design) of the new facility are to be found so as to maximise the profit obtained for the chain. Several types of constraints and costs are considered.  相似文献

Recent studies demonstrate that resource competition is an essential component of T-cell proliferation in HIV progression, which can contribute instructively to the disease development. In this paper, we formulate an age-structured within-host HIV model, in the form of a hyperbolic partial differential equation (PDE) for infected target cells coupled with two ordinary differential equations for uninfected T-cells and the virions, to explore the effects of both the T-cell competition and viral shedding variations on the viral dynamics. The basic reproduction number is derived for a general viral production rate which determines the local stability of the infection-free equilibrium. Two special forms of viral production rates, which are extensively investigated in previous literature, the delayed exponential distribution and a step function rate, are further investigated, where the original system can be reduced into systems of delay differential equations. It is confirmed that there exists a unique positive equilibrium for two special viral production rates when the basic reproduction number is greater than one. However, the model exhibits the phenomenon of backward bifurcation, where two positive steady states coexist with the infection-free equilibrium when the basic reproduction number is less than one.  相似文献

In this paper, the qualitative properties of general nonautonomous Lotka-Volterra n-species competitive systems with impulsive effects are studied. Some new criteria on the permanence, extinction and global attractivity of partial species are established by used the methods of inequalities estimate and Liapunov functions. The Magicicada spp. life cycles with its prime periods and highly synchronized emergence have defied reasonable scientific explanation since its discovery. During the last decade several models and explanations for this phenomenon appeared in the literature along with a great deal of discussion. Despite this considerable effort, there is no final conclusion about this long standing biological problem. Here, we construct a minimal automaton model without predation/parasitism which reproduces some of these aspects. Our results point towards competition between different strains with limited dispersal threshold as the main factor leading to the emergence of prime numbered life cycles.  相似文献
