Partial order complementation graphs

Two partial ordersP andQ on a setX arecomplementary (written asPQ) if they share no ordered pairs (except for loops) but the transitive closure of the union is all possible ordered pairs. For each positive integern we form a graph Pos _n consisting of all nonempty partial orders on {1, ,n} with edges denoting complementation. We investigate here properties of the graphs Pos _n . Approximation by translates of refinable functions

Summary. The functions are refinable if they are combinations of the rescaled and translated functions . This is very common in scientific computing on a regular mesh. The space of approximating functions with meshwidth is a subspace of with meshwidth . These refinable spaces have refinable basis functions. The accuracy of the computations depends on , the order of approximation, which is determined by the degree of polynomials that lie in . Most refinable functions (such as scaling functions in the theory of wavelets) have no simple formulas. The functions are known only through the coefficients in the refinement equation – scalars in the traditional case, matrices for multiwavelets. The scalar "sum rules" that determine are well known. We find the conditions on the matrices that yield approximation of order from . These are equivalent to the Strang–Fix conditions on the Fourier transforms , but for refinable functions they can be explicitly verified from the . The coefficients of the Laurent series expansions of real analytic functions

Letf be a real analytic function of a real variable such that 0 is an isolated (possibly essential) singularity off. In the existing literature the coefficients of the Laurent series expansion off around 0 are obtained by applying Cauchy's integral formula to the analytic continuation off on the complex plane. Here by means of a conformal mapping we derive a formula which determines the Laurent coefficients off solely in terms of the values off and the derivatives off at a real point of analyticity off. Using a more complicated mapping, we similarly determine the coefficients of the Laurent expansion off around 0 where now 0 is a singularity off which is not necessarily isolated.     

On the stabilizer subgroup of a fair of matrices

Let (F,G) be a pair of matrices defined over an arbitrary field, Fn × n, Gn × m. Consider the natural action of GL_n x GL_m on this pair given by (F,G) ? (gFg^-1,gGh^-1), where (g,h) ∈ GL_n × GL_m. 英语传统教学与创造性教学

传统的教学即以“教教材”为传统现念，以学习写与用为目的，通过多镇多练的方式达到教学效果；但是传统并不意味着落后，传统的教学培养了一批又一批的基础扎实，学习习惯踏实的学生；现代英语教学理念将教材皇作一种教学资源。其中新颁布的课程标准提出：“在英语教学中，除有利合理利用教材外，还应积极利用其它课程资源……”可见创造性生认知规律，有选择性的选择方法或将传统教学与创造性教学在英语教学中合二为一，将教学得灵活高效。     

东西方数学课程概览--2002重庆数学教育国际研讨会侧记

新世纪国际数学课程改革研讨会于2002年8月16日至20日在中国重庆召开。来自10个国家的代表分析了本国数学课程改革的最新进展。这10个国家是美国、法国、荷兰、俄罗斯、澳大利亚、巴西、日本、韩国、新加坡和中国大陆。根据代表们的发言，笔者在国际比较视野下对数学课程改革作了概述．讨论主题是：(1)中央集权和地方分权的国家数学课程；(2)考试文化的影响；(3)减轻学习负担；(4)“数学战争”；(5)减小东西方学生在基本技能方面的差距；(6)东西方交流的新动力；(7)学习技术的使用；(8)新世纪综合几何与演绎几何的命运。
