Molecular structure of di-aryl-aldimines by multinuclear magnetic resonance and X-ray diffraction

The complete ¹H, ¹³C and ¹⁵N NMR analyses for a series of 25 diaryl-aldimines containing phenyl, pyridyl, pyrazolone and furanyl moieties are described herein. Detailed evaluation of substituent chemical shift and coupling constant effects showed that interaction between the lone pair of the pyrazolone carbonyl group or the nitrogen of 2-substitued pyridines with the aldimine hydrogen increases the value and shifts the resonance signal for this hydrogen to high frequency, in the ¹H NMR spectra. The X-ray crystal structure analysis of pyrazolone substituted aldimines evidenced the planarity of the aryl groups which are conjugated with the CN double bond. In the case of the N-(2-pyridinemethylene)-1,5-dimethyl-2-phenyl-1,2-dihydro-pyrazol-3-one, two rotamers were observed in the same unit cell.

A convergent synthesis of octadeca-2E, 13Z-dienyl acetate, a pheromone component ofSynanthedon tipuliformis C., has been developed. The synthesis is based on cross-coupling of 8-iodooct-2E-en-I-ol THP ether with dec-5Z-enyl bromide catalyzed by CuBr. Translated fromIzvestiya Akademii Nauk. Assignment of the relative configuration of spiro[4.5]decanes by 13C, 15N and 17O NMR

The relative configuration of 11 1,4-diazaspiro[4.5]decanes (1a-1j and 1m), 15 1,4-oxazaspiro[4.5]decanes (2a-2o) and 10 1,4-dioxaspiro[4.5]decanes (3a-3n) substituted at the 2-, 6-, 7- or 8-position by a methyl group or using the tert-butyl group as a model for the ananchomeric structure is reported. The relative stereochemistry was analyzed by 1H, 13C, 15N and 17O NMR and all isomers present were characterized spectroscopically. Compounds with a methyl group in the six-membered ring show a chair conformation preference with the methyl group in the equatorial position. Compounds with one or two nitrogens exhibit a tautomeric equilibrium between the imine-diazolidine forms, as demonstrated by IR and 13C NMR.     

The tautomerism of Omeprazole in solution: a 1H and 13C NMR study

The tautomerism of 5(6)-methoxy-2-([(4-methoxy-3,5-dimethyl-2-pyridinyl)methyl] sulfinyl)-1H-benzimidazole (omeprazole) was determined in solution, K(T) = 0.59 in THF at 195 K, in favor of the 6-methoxy tautomer. The assignment of the signals was made by comparison with its two N-methyl derivatives in acetone-d6 and through theoretical calculations of the absolute shieldings (GIAO/DFT/6-311++G**).     

Triterpene glucosides of <Emphasis Type="Italic">Astragalus</Emphasis> and their genins. LXXIV. Cyclotrisectoside,the first trisdesmoside of cyclocephalogenin

The two trisdesmoside cycloartane glycosides astragaloside VII and cyclotrisectoside were isolated from Astragalus dissectus (Leguminosae) and identified. The latter was 20R,25-epoxy-24S-cycloartan-3β,6α,16β,24-tetraol 3-O-β-D-xylopyranoside-6,24-di-O-β-D-glucopyranoside and was a new natural compound. The distribution of square-full integers

Let , wheref(n) is the characteristic function of square-full integers. A formula is proved that can be used to obtain better upper bound estimate for (x). We get (x)=O(x ^5/33+), which improves the exponent 11/72 obtained by R. Blasubramania and K. Ramachandra.     

Combinatorial invariance of Stanley-Reisner rings

In this short note we show that Stanley—Reisner rings of simplicial complexes, which have had a dramatic application in combinatorics [2, p. 41], possess a rigidity property in the sense that they determine their underlying simplicial complexes.     

Representation of elements of a sequence by sumsets

In this note the method of [5] and a result from [3] are combined to treat the following classical problem: Given a finite setA and an infinite sequenceS (both inZ), what is the minimal number of elements ofA whose sum lies inS? We obtain an upper bound depending only on the densities ofA andS (but not on their arithmetic nature).     

Existence theorems for π/n vortex scattering

The analysis of 90° vortex-vortex scattering is extended to /n scattering in all head-on collisions ofn vortices in the Abelian Higgs model. A Cauchy problem with initial data that describe the scattering ofn vortices is formulated. It is shown that this Cauchy problem has a unique global finite-energy solution. The symmetry of the solution and the form of the local analytic solution then show that /n scattering is realized.
