We study the Fano varieties of projective k-planes lying in hypersurfaces and investigate the associated motives. In this article we construct an infinite family of simply connected minimal symplectic 4-manifolds, each of which admits at least two nonisomorphic Lefschetz fibration structures with the same generic fiber. We obtain such examples by performing knot surgery on an elliptic surface E(n) using a special type of 2-bridge knots. The Chern–Simons–Higgs energy serves as a model for high temperature superconductivity. We show the existence of weak solutions to the CSH equations that are minimizers of the CSH energy. The solutions are vortexless for an applied magnetic field h ex below the critical field strength, whereas vortices appear when h ex exceeds the critical field strength. D. The envelope of holomorphy of an arbitrary domain in a two-dimensional Stein manifold is identified with a connected component of the set of equivalence classes of analytic discs immersed into the Stein manifold with boundary in the domain. This implies, in particular, that for each of its points the envelope of holomorphy contains an embedded (non-singular) Riemann surface (and also an immersed analytic disc) passing through this point with boundary contained in the natural embedding of the original domain into its envelope of holomorphy. Moreover, it says, that analytic continuation to a neighbourhood of an arbitrary point of the envelope of holomorphy can be performed by applying the Continuity Principle once. Another corollary concerns representation of certain elements of the fundamental group of the domain by boundaries of analytic discs. A particular case is the following. Given a contact three-manifold with Stein filling, any element of the fundamental group of the contact manifold whose representatives are contractible in the filling can be represented by the boundary of an immersed analytic disc.  相似文献

We start by introducing a Čech homology with compact supports which we then use in order to construct an infinite-dimensional homology theory. Next we show that under appropriate conditions on the nonlinearity there exists a ground state solution for a semilinear Schr?dinger equation with strongly indefinite linear part. To this solution there corresponds a nontrivial critical group, defined in terms of the infinite-dimensional homology mentioned above. Finally, we employ this fact in order to construct solutions of multibump type. We give a positive answer, in the measurable-group-theory context, to von Neumann’s problem of knowing whether a non-amenable countable discrete group contains a non-cyclic free subgroup. Using theorems of Bangert, we prove a rigidity result which shows how a question raised by Bangert for elliptic integrands of Moser type is connected, in the case of minimal solutions without self-intersections, to a famous conjecture of De Giorgi for phase transitions. The stability of an equilibrium point of a dynamical system is determined by the position in the complex plane of the so-called characteristic values of the linearization around the equilibrium. This paper presents an approach for the computation of characteristic values of partial differential equations of evolution involving time delay, which is based on a pseudospectral method coupled with a spectral method. The convergence of the computed characteristic values is of infinite order with respect to the pseudospectral discretization and of finite order with respect to the spectral one. However, for one dimensional reaction diffusion equations, the finite order of the spectral discretization is proved to be so high that the convergence turns out to be as fast as one of infinite order.  相似文献
