Recent observation and theoretical investigations have led to the significance of electrostatic ion cyclotron (EIC) waves
in the electrodynamics of acceleration process. The instability is one of the fundamental of a current carrying magnetized
plasma. The EIC instability has the lowest threshold current among the current driven instabilities. On the basis of local
analysis where inhomogeneities like the magnetic shear and the finite width current channel, have been ignored which is prevalent
in the magnetospheric environment. On the basis of non-local analysis interesting modification has been incorporated by the
inclusion of magnetic shear. In this paper we provide an analytical approach for the non-local treatment of current driven
electrostatic waves in presence of parallel electric field. The growth rate is significantly influenced by the field aligned
electron drift. The presence of electric field enhances the growth of EIC waves while magnetic shear stabilizes the system. 相似文献

In a two-fluid system where the lower fluid is bounded below by a rigid bottom and the upper fluid is bounded above by a free surface, two kinds of solitary waves can propagate along the interface and the free surface: classical solitary waves characterized by a solitary pulse or generalized solitary waves with nondecaying oscillations in their tails in addition to the solitary pulse. The classical solitary waves move faster than the generalized solitary waves. The origin of the nonlocal solitary waves can be understood from a physical point of view. The dispersion relation for the above system shows that short waves can propagate at the same speed as a “slow” solitary wave. The interaction between the solitary wave and the short waves creates a nonlocal solitary wave. In this paper, the interfacial-wave problem is reduced to a system of ordinary differential equations by using a classical perturbation method, which takes into consideration the possible resonance between short waves and “slow” solitary waves. In the past, classical Korteweg–de Vries type models have been derived but cannot deal with the resonance. All solutions of the new system of model equations, including classical as well as generalized solitary waves, are constructed. The domain of validity of the model is discussed as well. It is also shown that fronts connecting two conjugate states cannot occur for “fast” waves. For “slow” waves, fronts exist but they have ripples in their tails. 相似文献

The noncollinear interaction of guided optical waves with magnetostatic waves under inclined bias magnetic field is theoretically studied in detail. Similar approach can also be applied to the collinear interaction. Calculation results indicate that the diffraction efficiency (DE) in magnitude is equal to the mode-conversion efficiency (MCE) under vertical bias magnetic field, but they differ greatly under inclined bias magnetic field. By comparison to the case of vertical magnetization, the DE or the MCE can be greatly increased under inclined magnetic field. A rigorous mathematical reduction of the procedure widely usedfor studying a class of the nonlinear problems with perturbations,namely the method of the multiple scales, is used. A profound analysis,which provides an approach for deriving a coupled nonlinearSchrödinger equations. The investigation has been achieved byperturbing the nonlinear dynamical system about the linear dynamicalproblem. Modulated wavetrains are described to all orders ofapproximation. Moreover, we extend our approach to deal with equationshaving periodic terms. Two types of simultaneous nonlinearSchrödinger equations are derived. One type is valid at thenon-parametric system and the second type represents a modification forthe first type which is governed the non-resonance case. Two parametriccoupled nonlinear Schrödeinger equations are derived to govern thesecond-sub-harmonic resonance. In addition other two coupled equationsare found for the third-sub-harmonic resonance case. These systems ofequations control the stability behavior at the parametric resonancecases.
