A game locating a needle in a circular haystack

A complete solution of the following Hider-Seeker zero-sum game is obtained. The hider hides a needle of lengtha, 0<a2, in the closed unit dise, and the seeker tries to locate it by shooting in a straight line across the disc. The payoff to the seeker is 1 if he hits the needle and 0 otherwise.     

Majorana Transformation for Differential Equations

We present a method for reducing the order of ordinary differential equations satisfying a given scaling relation (Majorana scale-invariant equations). We also develop a variant of this method, aimed to reduce the degree of nonlinearity of the lower order equation. Some applications of these methods are carried out and, in particular, we show that second-order Emden–Fowler equations can be transformed into first-order Abel equations. The work presented here is a generalization of a method used by Majorana in order to solve the Thomas–Fermi equation.

Limit relations for three simple hyperbolic systems of conservation laws

This paper is concerned with the limit relations from the Euler equations of one‐dimensional compressible fluid flow and the magnetohydrodynamics equations to the simplified transport equations, where the δ‐shock waves occur in their Riemann solutions of the latter two equations. The objective is to prove that the Riemann solutions of the perturbed equations coming from the one‐dimensional simplified Euler equations and the magnetohydrodynamics equations converge to the corresponding Riemann solutions of the simplified transport equations as the perturbation parameterx ε tends to zero. Furthermore, the result can also be generalized to more general situations. Copyright © 2009 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

一类扩张了的软弹簧型Duffing方程的紊动性态

本文用Melnikov函数方法讨论了一类扩张了的软弹簧型Duffing方程(k=1,2,3,…)在周期激励下的紊动现象.给出了出现二阶同宿切的条件.文中所采用的方法对于不能给出并宿轨道的显式的系统的研究是非常有用的.     

ON THE PROJECTION OF THE EFFICIENT SET AND POTENTIAL APPLICATIONS

Abstract

We study the efficient set X _E for a multiple objective linear program by using its projection into the linear space L spanned by the independent criteria. We show that in the orthogonally complementary space of L, the efficient points form a polyhedron, while in L an efficiency-equivalent polyhedron for the projection P(X _E ) of X _E can be constructed by algorithms of outer and inner approximation types. These algorithms can be also used for generating all extreme points of P(X _E ). Application to optimization over the efficient set for a multiple objective linear program is considered.     

稀疏过程下变破产下限多元相依风险模型的破产概率

研究了稀疏过程下多元相依风险模型在假定变破产下限的破产概率,其中索赔产生时依赖概率ρ的可能性同时产生一次续保,即续保过程是索赔的ρ-稀疏过程.运用鞅方法得到了当破产下限为某些特征函数时破产概率所满足的不等式或破产概率的具体表达式.
