A customary, heuristic, method, by which the Poisson integral formula for the Dirichlet problem, for the half space, for Laplace's equation is obtained, involves Green's function, and Kelvin's method of images. Although this heuristic method leads one to guess the correct result, this Poisson formula still has to be verified directly, independently of the method by which it was arrived at, in order to be absolutely certain that a solution of the Dirichlet problem for the half space, for Laplace's equation, has been actually obtained. A similar heuristic method, as seems to be generally known, could be followed in solving the Dirichlet problem, for the half space, for the equation where is a real constant. However, in Part 1, a different, labor-saving, method is used to study Dirichlet problems for the equation. This method is essentially based on what Hadamard called the method of descent. Indeed, it is shown that he who has solved the half space Dirichlet problem for Laplace's equation has already solved the half space Dirichlet problem for the equation In Part 2, the solution formula for the quarter space Dirichlet problem for Laplace's equation is obtained from the Poisson integral formula for the half space Dirichlet problem for Laplace's equation. A representation theorem for harmonic functions in the quarter space is deduced. The method of descent is used, in Part 3, to obtain the solution formula for the quarter space Dirichlet problem for the equation by means of the solution formula for the quarter space Dirichlet problem for Laplace's equation. So that, indeed, it is also shown that he who has solved the quarter space Dirichlet problem for Laplace's equation has already solved the quarter space Dirichlet problem for the " equation" For the sake of completeness and clarity, and for the convenience of the reader, the appendix, at the end of Part 3, contains a detailed proof that the Poisson integral formula solves the half space Dirichlet problem for Laplace's equation. Abstract Rift Valley Fever (RVF) virus is a mosquito‐born pathogen that infects livestock but it also has the capability to infect humans through direct or indirect contact with blood or organs of infected animals and by bites from infected mosquitos. The economic and social cost of the disease to rural populations can lead to a cascade of negative effects on the sustainability of animal and human populations. Vaccines exist to protect against this disease. Through a compartment model depicting the interactions leading to the spread of RVF in Aedes and Culex mosquitos and a livestock population, an optimal control problem is developed to minimize the number of vaccinated livestock at the final time while minimizing the negative effects of the infected Aedes and Culex mosquitos and the cost of the vaccination process. The unique optimal vaccination strategy is produced for given high transmission parameters and numerical results portray that vaccination depends on the level of effectiveness of the protocol.  相似文献

Abstract A model of sustainable economic growth in an economy with two types of exhaustible resources is analyzed. The resources are assumed to be perfect substitutes with marginal rate of substitution varying over time. The optimal control framework is used to characterize the optimal paths under the maximin criterion. It is shown that the resource with increasing productivity is not used before the constant productivity resource is depleted. Afterwards the resource with an increasing productivity is asymptotically depleted as well. The results are based on an assumption that transversality conditions hold. A new sufficient condition for the transversality conditions is derived. Finally, an analogue of Hartwick’s rule for this non‐autonomous case is established.  相似文献

We consider the minimization problem of an integral functional with integrand that is not convex in the control on solutions of a control system described by fractional differential equation with mixed nonconvex constraints on the control. A relaxation problem is treated along with the original problem. It is proved that, under general assumptions, the relaxation problem has an optimal solution, and that for each optimal solution there is a minimizing sequence of the original problem that converges to the optimal solution with respect to the trajectory, the control, and the functional in appropriate topologies simultaneously.  相似文献

This article studies the chaotic and complex behavior in a fractional‐order biomathematical model of a muscular blood vessel (MBV). It is shown that the fractional‐order MBV (FOMBV) model exhibits very complex and rich dynamics such as chaos. We show that the corresponding maximal Lyapunov exponent of the FOMBV system is positive which implies the existence of chaos. Strange attractors of the FOMBV model are depicted to validate the chaotic behavior of the system. We change the fractional order of the model and investigate the dynamics of the system. To suppress the chaotic behavior of the model, we propose a single input fractional finite‐time controller and prove its stability using the fractional Lyapunov theory. In addition, the effects of the model uncertainties and external disturbances are taken into account and a robust fractional finite‐time controller is constructed. The upper bound of the chaos suppression time is also given. Some computer simulations are presented to illustrate the findings of this article. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. This paper introduces three (one linear and two nonlinear) automatic scaling techniques for NLPs with states and constraints spread over several orders of magnitude, without requiring complex off-the-shelf external tools. All of these methods have been compared to standard techniques and applied to three problems using SNOPT and IPOPT. The results confirm that the proposed techniques significantly improve the NLP conditioning, yielding more reliable and in some cases, faster NLP solutions.  相似文献

(2013) gave a criterion determining the optimal admission control policy for this model. In this paper, we improve the results of Silva et al. In this article the local stability of the Rabinovich–Fabrikant (R–F) chaotic system with fractional order time derivative is analyzed using fractional Routh–Hurwitz stability criterion. Feedback control method is used to control chaos in the considered fractional order system and after controlling the chaos the authors have introduced the synchronization between fractional order non-chaotic R–F system and the chaotic R–F system at various equilibrium points. The fractional derivative is described in the Caputo sense. Numerical simulation results which are carried out using Adams–Boshforth–Moulton method show that the method is effective and reliable for synchronizing the systems.  相似文献
