The Content Driven Mobile Internet

The development of future mobile networks will be driven, in large part, by content and web based services. In this paper, we examine several performance, scalability and architectural challenges faced by future mobile web applications and how advanced mobile content delivery techniques can address these challenges. We review existing content delivery using a taxonomy that consists of three categories: network scaling, end system acceleration, and content and protocol optimization. While wireline content delivery focuses on network and server scalability, mobile content delivery will likely benefit most from optimizing radio link usage. We also present our ongoing work in this area, which extends the functionality of edge caching to the terminal, uses user interest correlation information to maintain low terminal power consumption and adds a new dimension to radio resource management. Castelnuovo-Mumford regularity by approximation

The Castelnuovo-Mumford regularity of a module gives a rough measure of its complexity. We bound the regularity of a module given a system of approximating modules whose regularities are known. Such approximations can arise naturally for modules constructed by inductive combinatorial means. We apply these methods to bound the regularity of ideals constructed as combinations of linear ideals and the module of derivations of a hyperplane arrangement as well as to give degree bounds for invariants of finite groups.     

Degrevlex Gröbner bases of generic complete intersections

In this paper, we study the Hilbert–Samuel function of a generic standard graded K-algebra

K[X₁,…,X_n]/(g₁,…,g_m)

when refined by an (ℓ)-adic filtration, ℓ being a linear form. From this we obtain a structure theorem which describes the stairs of a generic complete intersection for the degree-reverse-lexicographic order. We show what this means for generic standard (or Gröbner) bases for this order; in particular, we consider an “orderly filling up” conjecture, and we propose a strategy for the standard basis algorithm which could be useful in generic-like cases.     

An analytical proof of Hardy-like inequalities related to the Dirac operator

We prove some sharp Hardy-type inequalities related to the Dirac operator by elementary, direct methods. Some of these inequalities have been obtained previously using spectral information about the Dirac-Coulomb operator. Our results are stated under optimal conditions on the asymptotics of the potentials near zero and near infinity.     

On divisibility properties of certain multinomial coefficients—II

A recent conjecture of Myerson and Sander concerns divisibility properties of certain multinomial coefficients. We obtain results in this direction by further pursuing a line of attack developed earlier by the first author.     

Small zeros of quadratic forms with linear conditions

Given a quadratic form and M linear forms in N+1 variables with coefficients in a number field K, suppose that there exists a point in K^N+1 at which the quadratic form vanishes and all the linear forms do not. Then we show that there exists a point like this of relatively small height. This generalizes a result of D.W. Masser.     

Separable free quadratic algebras over quadratic integers

The aim of the paper is to determine all free separable quadratic algebras over the rings of integers of quadratic fields in terms of the properties of the fundamental unit in the real case. The paper corrects some earlier published results on the subject.     

The Hochschild class of the Chern character for semifinite spectral triples

We provide a proof of Connes’ formula for a representative of the Hochschild class of the Chern character for (p,∞)-summable spectral triples. Our proof is valid for all semifinite von Neumann algebras, and all integral p?1. We employ the minimum possible hypotheses on the spectral triples.     

Tangent circle bundles admit positive open book decompositions along arbitrary links

In the present paper we generalize the divide lying in the unit disk, introduced by A'Campo, to compact, oriented, smooth surfaces, and prove a fibration theorem for generalized divides. As a consequence, we will show that, for any link L in the tangent circle bundle Y to the compact surface, there exists an additional knot K such that the link L∪K is the binding of a “positive” open book decomposition of Y.
