On the basis of the experimental reports, the mechanism of the second-order susceptibility (2) for the thermal/electric field poling of fused silica is analyzed, and expressions for (2) are detailedly derived and numerically calculated for the first time. By comparison the theoretical value of (2) with the experiment results, we propose that the effective (2) is created via both the interaction of the intense electric field with the third-order susceptibility (3) and the dipole orientation. The theoretical results show that, in the differently applied voltage, the dipole orientation and (3) play different role in the formation of (2). A propagation of the femtosecond second-order solitons in an optical fiber is studied. We show that a generalized nonlinear Schrödinger equation well describes the propagation of the second-order soliton even containing only a few optical cycles. The propagations of a 50 fs and a 10 fs second-order soliton in an optical fiber are numerically simulated. It is found that, for the case of 10 fs second-order soliton, the soliton decay is dominated by the third-order dispersion, in contrast to the case of 50 fs second-order solitons, where the soliton decay is dominated by the delayed Raman response. It is also found that the exact delayed Raman response form must be used for the propagation of the 50 fs or less than 50 fs second-order soliton. 相似文献

In this paper, a new analysis technique of an ordinary second-order oscillator which is based on multi-time concept is proposed. This mathematical analysis results in a new closed-form solution of a system complete response. It is found that amplitude of the natural response is not constant but varied with the forced response of the system. For a constant forcing function proposed, the new analysis is identical to the conventional analysis. In the case of time-varying forcing function, however, it is different from the conventional approach. Based on such analysis, it implies that the amplitude of a second-order oscillator can easily be controlled by forced response of the system. Hence, the obtained result based on the proposed analysis technique provides a proper mathematical solution for the system, especially in a time-varying forcing function. Moreover, the mathematical analysis for the wide-band characteristic of a second-order oscillator is also described.
