Human activity prediction has become increasingly valuable in many applications. This paper, initially from the perspective of cognition science, presents a novel approach to learning a hierarchical spatio-temporal pattern of human activities to predict ongoing activities from videos that contain only the onsets of the activities. Spatio-temporal pattern can be learned by a Hierarchical Self-Organizing Map (HSOM), which consists of two self-organizing maps (i.e., action map and actionlet map) connected via associative links trained by Hebbian learning. Ongoing activities can be predicted by Variable order Markov Model (VMM), which provides the means for capturing both large and small order Markov dependencies based on the training actionlet sequences. Experiments of the proposed method on four challenging 3D action datasets captured by commodity depth cameras show promising results.  相似文献

Online social media exhibit massive organizational event relevant messages, and the well categorized event information can be useful in many real-world applications. In this paper, we propose a research framework to extract high quality event information from massive online media data. The main contributions lie in two aspects: First, we present an event-extraction and event-categorization system for online media data; second, we present a novel approach for both discovering important event categories and classifying extracted events based on word representation and clustering model. A new three‐dimensional graphical representation of DNA sequences, three‐unit semicircles (TUS)‐curve, which maps a given sequence into a dot sequences embedded in three‐unit semicircles, is proposed based on three biclassifications of nucleotides. TUS‐curve has the merit of compactness and could avoid the degeneracy and loss of information. The geometrical center of the curve, which indicates the distribution of base frequencies of the corresponding DNA sequence, is extracted and applied to analyze the similarity of various species. Phylogenetic tree of 11 species based on their first exons of β‐globin genes showed that the TUS‐curve is a powerful tool to get valuable biological information. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. We present a new method to investigate the two-dimensional free-boundary groundwater seepage from symmetric soil channels into a homogeneous isotropic porous medium. We use Levi–Civitá’s function to construct an integral representation for the conformal mapping of the complex potential domain onto the physical flow domain. A genetic algorithm (GA) is used to calculate the coefficients of the Maclaurin series expansion of Levi–Civitá’s function. The coordinates of the points from the channel contour, calculated by means of the integral representation, must satisfy the analytic equation of the contour. We use this condition to define the objective function of the genetic algorithm. Levi–Civitá’s function is afterwards used to calculate the seepage loss, the free lines, the streamlines, the equipotential lines, the isobars and the velocity field.
