语音帧间相关信息对基于HMM系统识别精度的影响

本文探讨经短时信号处理后的语音信号帧间相关信息对基于隐马尔可夫模型（ＨＭＭ）的语音识别系统识虽精度的影响，鉴于ＨＭＭ的输出独立假设导致语音帧间相关信息的损失，本文提出了一种描述帧间相关信息的统计模型－马尔可夫链（ＭＣＭ）用来弥补ＨＭＭ在这方面的缺陷；经非特定人和多话者孤立字实验表明，用ＭＣＭ作为ＨＭＭ的辅助模型，可将原有ＨＭＭ系统的识别率提高约１～６个百分点。     

Wavelet and harmonic filtering for distortion-invariant volume holographic correlation

The wavelet and harmonic filtering method suggested by Zalevsky and Ouzieli is introduced in this paper and adopted in our volume holographic image recognition system. This composite filter combines several scaled versions of the cascaded wavelet and harmonic filter, obtaining high discrimination ability and wide dynamic range of rotation and scale deformations. Optical experiments are conducted to demonstrate the validity and practicability of the algorithm. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report of using this algorithm in a volume holographic system. Moreover, the separate correlation approach proposed in this paper greatly simplifies the manufacturing process and reduces the cost of the system.     

Effect of stoichiometry on liquid crystalline supramolecular polymers formed with complementary nucleobase pair interactions

We report herein studies on the liquid crystalline behavior of a series of supramolecular materials that contain different ratios of two complementary symmetrically-substituted alkoxy-bis(phenylethynyl)benzene AA- and BB-type monomers. One monomer has thymine units placed at either end of the rigid mesogenic core, while the other has N⁶-(4-methoxybenzoyl)-adenine units placed on the ends. Differential scanning calorimetric and polarized optical microscopy studies have been carried out on these systems. These studies show that the material's behavior is strongly dependent on its thermal history. As a result, the materials can exhibit, on heating, either a liquid crystalline phase, a crystalline phase, or the coexistence of crystalline and liquid crystalline regions. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Chiral soluble polymers and microspheres for enantioselective crystallization

A series of chiral polymers based on poly(N‐acryl) amino acids was synthesized using a convergent synthetic approach. These chiral polymers have been used as chiral additives to induce enantioselective crystallization of racemic or conglomerate amino acids in solutions. These polymeric additives showed strong capabilities to enhance highly enantioselective resolution during the crystallization of amino acids. In addition, these polymers caused unusual modifications of amino acid crystal morphologies. Furthermore, spherical microparticles of those same chiral polymers were also shown active in similar chiral discriminations during amino acid crystallizations occurring on microparticle surfaces. Our study demonstrates the high potential of chiral polymers and microparticles to resolve amino acids throughout crystallization processes. High enantiomeric excesses in one targeted enantiomer of amino acids can also be maximized via time‐dependent kinetic control of crystallizations. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Discrete storage processes and their Poisson flow and fluid flow approximations

Consider discrete storage processes that are modulated by environmental processes. Environmental processes cause interruptions in the input and/or output processes of the discrete storage processes. Due to the difficulties encountered in the exact analysis of such discrete storage systems, often Poisson flow and/or fluid flow models with the same modulating environmental processes are proposed as approximations for these systems. The analysis of Poisson flow and fluid flow models is much easier than that of the discrete storage processes. In this paper we give sufficient conditions under which the content of the discrete storage processes can be bounded by the Poisson flow and the fluid flow models. For example, we show that Poisson flow models and the fluid flow models developed by Kosten (and by Anick, Mitra and Sondhi) can be used to bound the performance of infinite (finite) source packetized voice/data communication systems. We also show that a Poisson flow model and the fluid flow model developed by Mitra can be used to bound the buffer content of a two stage automatic transfer line. The potential use of the bounding techniques presented in this paper, of course, transcends well beyond these examples.Supported in part by NSF grant DMS-9308149.     

Recognition of ring pairs in the data analysis of Cherenkov detectors

We present a new algorithm for the identification of ring pairs in Cherenkov detectors. The approach combines linear regression methods for the construction of an appropriate reference quantity, methods from statistics for the evaluation of hypotheses and Monte Carlo simulation runs for the tuning of threshold levels.     

小波变换在手写体汉字识别中的应用

汉字识别中的结构类特征具有抗变形的优点，合适做为手写体识别过程使用，但其中笔划特征的提取非常困难。本文用小波变换这一图象分析中有力工具对汉字图象分析处理之后，再进行笔划的提取，其过程简洁、明晰。     

Image guide couplers with dielectric coupling elements and radiation reduction

Directional couplers in image guide technique for millimeter-wave circuits are discussed, and steps to improve their properties are demonstrated. The simple two-line-9 dB coupler with periodical coupling is compared to a design with an intermediate dielectric coupling element to reduce the frequency dependence. Radiation from the waveguide bends can be reduced significantly by inserting absorber materials at critical points. Experimental results for a-3 dB coupler are also given.     

New Chiral Kemp's Acid Diamides for Chiral Amine Recognition by 1 H NMR

Two Kemp's acid diamides were synthesized and applied to chiral amine recognition using ¹H NMR analysis. One derivative based on 1-(1-naphthyl)ethylamine had good chiral recognition of six amines and was useful to determine the optical purity for three amines, i.e., methylbenzylamine, 1-(1-naphthyl)ethylamine and 1- henylpropylamine,however, the cyclohexylethylamine derivative showed little discrimination for the amines studied. Together with the results for alkylamines, it was shown that aromatic structure was important for aromatic shielding anisotropy and –– interactions between host and guest. The structure of the 1-(1-naphthyl)ethylamine derivative in solution was also considered based on ¹H NMR data and computer simulation.
