Theoretical studies have been extensively performed to reveal the mechanism of the biological adhesive structure with a flat head.However,most biological adhesive structures have a big head.Here we investigate the effect of the head shape on the adhesion capability of a mushroomlike adhesion structure based on a finite element model.We show that a mushroom-like head produces significant adhesion enhancement.We investigate also the effect of the elastic modulus of the adhesive structure on the adhesion.Our results are consistent with existing experimental results. 相似文献

Abstract Proteins that bind preferentially to specific recognition sites on DNA also bind more weakly to nonspecific DNA. We have studied both specific and non-specific binding of the EcoRI and BamHI restriction endonucleases, and determined enthalpic and entropic contributions to binding free energy (ΔG°bind) using both the van't Hoff method and isothermal titration calorimetry. Specific binding is characterized by a strongly negative ΔC°p and can be either enthalpy-driven or entropy-driven, depending on temperature. Nonspecific binding has ΔC°p ≈ 0 and is enthalpy-driven. A strongly negative ΔC°p is the ?thermodynamic signature’ of site-specific binding, because it reflects the characteristics of a tight complementary recognition interface: the burial of previously hydrated nonpolar surface and restriction of configurational-vibrational freedoms of protein, DNA, and water molecules trapped at the protein-DNA interface. These factors are absent in nonspecific complexes. We probed the contributions to ΔC°p by varying the sequence context surrounding the recognition site. As ΔG°bind improves, ΔC°p' ΔH° and ΔS° all become more negative, and there is a linear correlation between ΔH° and ΔS° (enthalpy-entropy compensation). Because these context variations do not change the protein-base or protein-phosphate contacts, the hydrophobic contribution or the number of trapped water molecules at the interface, we conclude that a better sequence context improves the ?goodness of fit’ in the interface and and thus increases the magnitude of the negative configurational-vibrational contribution to ΔC°p. 相似文献

This study presents the mechanical characterization of the dry film photoresist PerMX and its adhesion properties when laminated onto Kapton® E (PI) and Melinex® ST506 (PET). Additionally, the processing temperature, the adhesion strength, and the neutral plane position are investigated and optimized. A relatively low-temperature (85 °C) process is developed to protect the integrity of the polymers with low glass transition temperature and reduce the thermal mismatch stress. Reduction in processing temperature led to a decrement in the adhesion strength. To counteract this unwanted effect, surface treatments (oxygen plasma) are performed on the polymer surface before lamination. Using the latter techniques, adhesion of PerMX to PET (hard bake: 1 h at 85 °C) is increased from 0.07 to 0.26 N mm−1 (variation of 270%). Finally, the mechanical robustness is investigated and increased by tuning the position of the neutral plane, after 50,000 bending cycles and a radius of curvature of 2.5 mm. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The effects of change in surface energy and bulk viscoelastic properties on the autohesive tack strength of brominated isobutylene‐co‐p‐methylstyrene (BIMS) rubber have been investigated by the addition of hydrocarbon resin (HCR) tackifier and maleated hydrocarbon resin (MA‐g‐HCR) tackifier. The addition of compatible HCR tackifier results in a reasonable increment in the tack strength of BIMS rubber by modifying only the bulk viscoelastic properties (compliance, entanglement molecular weight, relaxation time, self‐diffusion, and monomer friction coefficient values) of BIMS rubber to perform better during the course of bonding and debonding steps of the peel test. Incorporation of MA‐g‐HCR tackifier (containing 5–20 wt % of grafted maleic anhydride) steadily increases the tack strength of BIMS rubber further by precisely modifying both the surface energy and bulk viscoelastic properties to perform much better in the bonding and debonding steps. However, beyond 20 wt % of grafted maleic anhydride in the HCR tackifier, the tack strength starts decreasing due to the incompatibility between the blend components, and hence, the bulk viscoelastic properties required for bond formation are severely retarded by the interrelated reinforcing effect and the phase separation effect of the brittle MA‐g‐HCR tackifier in the BIMS rubber. Hence, the polar groups in a tackifier will contribute to significant enhancement of autohesive tack strength only if the bulk viscoelastic property of the rubber‐tackifier blend is favorable for bond formation and bond separation. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The effect of temperature, adhesion time, and surface treatment of a reinforcing filler on the mechanical properties of thermoplastic basalt plastics based on a high-density polyethylene and a copolymer of 1,3,5-trioxane with 1,3-dioxolan is investigated. An extreme dependence for the adhesive strength in a thermoplastic-basalt fiber system is established and its effect on the mechanical properties of basalt plastics and the influence of the adhesion contact time on the adhesive strength in the system are clarified. The surface modification of basalt fibers in acidic and alkaline media intensifies the adhesion of thermoplastics to them owing to a more developed surface of the reinforcing fibers after etching. It is found that the treatment in the acidic medium is more efficient and considerably improves the mechanical properties of basalt plastics. 相似文献

The adhesive ability of a heat-resistant polyiminoquinazolindione (PIQD) binder, based on a double-chain polymer, and the
physicomechanical characteristics of unidirectional CFRPs made with it are investigated. It is shown that, at room temperature,
the strength of model adhesive joints (PIQD-steel wire) and of the CFRPs in shear and bending is rather low — about half of
that of similar specimens based on an epoxy binder. At the same time, all their mechanical characteristics, to a large measure
(50%), are retained at temperatures up to 450°C, which considerably exceeds the heat resistance of all polymer matrices used
at the present time. The elastic modulus of the CFRPs in bending practically remains the same up to 450°C.
