The diagnonal multivariate natural exponential families and their classification

A natural exponential family (NEF)F in ? ⁿ ,n>1, is said to be diagonal if there existn functions,a ₁,...,a _n , on some intervals of ?, such that the covariance matrixV _F (m) ofF has diagonal (a ₁(m ₁),...,a _n (m _n )), for allm=(m ₁,...,m _n ) in the mean domain ofF. The familyF is also said to be irreducible if it is not the product of two independent NEFs in ? ^k and ? ^n-k , for somek=1,...,n?1. This paper shows that there are only six types of irreducible diagonal NEFs in ? ⁿ , that we call normal, Poisson, multinomial, negative multinomial, gamma, and hybrid. These types, with the exception of the latter two, correspond to distributions well established in the literature. This study is motivated by the following question: IfF is an NEF in ? ⁿ , under what conditions is its projectionp(F) in ? ^k , underp(x ₁,...,x _n )∶=(x ₁,...,x _k ),k=1,...,n?1, still an NEF in ? ^k ? The answer turns out to be rather predictable. It is the case if, and only if, the principalk×k submatrix ofV _F (m ₁,...,m _n ) does not depend on (m _k+1,...,m _n ).     

Spectro-streak picosecond studies of intramolecular charge-transfer fluorescence

A spectro-streak photometer, an instrument for simultaneously measuring fluorescence intensity, time, and wavelength,I(t, ), with a single picosecond excitation pulse, has been constructed. Two typical and currently highly topical examples of mesurements are discussed. (1) the temporal development of the fluorescence form the intramolecular charge-transfer (ICT) state of the rigid aromatic compound 4,5-(1-methylindolino)3,4-naphthanthracene is studied in the protic solvent hexanol. (2) Propyl chain-linked pyrene/N,N-dimethylaniline is used as the model compound to study conformational changes associated with the transition from a contact ion pair to a sandwich exciplex.     

InPBi禁带下红外光致发光效率的Bi组分依赖研究

稀Bi半导体InPBi的光致发光（Photoluminescence, PL）主要来自缺陷能级跃迁过程,具有红外长波长、大线宽和高辐射强度等特点,因而引发广泛兴趣。针对InPBi的红外发光效率问题,本文研究了不同Bi组分InPBi的激发功率依赖红外PL光谱演化规律。实验发现,随着Bi组分增大,PL线型发生显著变化,导致发光波长总体红移;同时激发功率依赖的PL积分强度演化分析表明,发光效率随Bi组分先增大然后下降,在0.5%组分时发光效率达到峰值。发光效率增大一方面归因于Bi捕获空穴降低非辐射复合,另一方面来自Bi的表面活性剂效应;而高Bi组分引入过多缺陷从而抑制了Bi的优势,导致发光效率下降。这些结果或有助于理解InPBi的红外发射性能,表明InPBi具有红外光电子应用前景。     

Spectrum of positive entropy multidimensional dynamical systems with a mixed time

It is shown that if an abelian countable group is such that is a finite group and every aperiodic positive entropy action of on a Lebesgue probability space has a countable Haar spectrum in the subspace , where denotes the Pinsker -
algebra of , then every aperiodic positive entropy action of on has the same property. A positive answer to the question of J.P. Thouvenot is obtained as a corollary.

     

Cocycle d'Euler etK2

In this paper we construct a canonical 2-cocycle on the groupP SL(2,k) with values in the Witt groupW(k) of the fieldk. This allows us to produce anatural homomorphism :H ₂(SL(2,k); Z)I ²(k), whereI ²(k) is the square of the fundamental ideal. We prove that this homomorphism is in fact a lift of Milnor's symbol.

     

MULTIPHOTON EXCITATION OF A WATER MOLECULE IN INTENSE LASER FIELDS

A stretch vibration Hamiltonian of H_2O has been derived by using the second quantization, unitary transformations and the optimization of coefficients. The energy spectrum obtained from this Hamiltonian is in good agreement with that of experiments. The multiphoton excitation and the energy absorption of H_2O in intense laser fields have been calculated.     

An aldol approach to the total synthesis of (+)-brefeldin A

A convergent selective route to (+)-brefeldin A (BFA) and 7-epi-BFA was developed, with the crucial C-4/C-5 stereogenic centers were established using Crimmins asymmetric aldolization.     

Design of a new molecule that exhibits observable CD spectra under σ-σ* excitation: 2,6-Disilyl-2,6-disilaspiro[3.3]heptanes

Abstract

We previously designed and prepared the first molecules to exhibit observable CD spectra by n-σ* excitation, 2,6-dithiaspiro[3.3]heptane 2,6-dioxide. Spiro[3.3]heptane frameworks possess axial asymmetry due to puckering of 2 four-membered rings; the ring bonds are rich in p-character due to acute bond angles, which lowers the σ* energy levels. In contrast, the lone pairs are rich in s-character, which results in a good donor with conformational fixation. We expected that, instead of lone pairs as donating orbitals, the use of σ-electron-donating Si-Si bonds should result in UV absorption in the observable range (>180?nm), so that the Cotton effect could appear, at least partially, in that range. We designed 2,6-disilyl-2,6-disilaspiro[3.3]heptanes as models, and performed theoretical calculations to confirm our idea.     

Thermodynamics of natural selection

It is shown that biological-natural-selection-like behavior can occur, as a general type of time evolution, in a statistical system where detailed balance is violated owing to the presence of metastable energy states. A model of a non-equilibrium phase transition corresponding to the spontaneous origin of self-reproduction in the system is suggested. After a phase transition, the system passes from one quasistationary distribution of self-reproducing subsystems to another, with an increase in the total organization, as long as the growth of the energy flow through the system or a reduction of energy dissipation in the system is possible. The entropy production is calculated for this process in terms of selective values of Eigen's theory for self-organization in autocatalytic systems. Correspondence of the extremal principle of Eigen's theory with the criterion of evolution in Prigogine's thermodynamics is established.
