A Study on Melody Tempo with EEG

In this paper, tempo perception is investi- gated by recording spontaneous electroencephalograph （EEG）. Ten normal male non-musician college students are selected according to questionnaire results after listening absorbedly to four different tempos of an excerpt from a Mozart sonata. EEGs data are recorded when the subjects are listening to the music. The EEG spectral power （SP） is analyzed for alpha band. The varying trend of power spectrum during exposure to music excerpts of different tempos is studied and shows the consistence with the previous tempo-specific hypothesis： a tempo-transformed performance will sound less natural than an original performance does. The results presented in this paper suggest that tempo is an important factor that could influence the alpha rhythm.

乐曲节奏检测和跟踪是音乐理解系统以及可视化系统的一个重要组成部分.本文提出了一种基于多路径搜索和聚类分析的节奏检测算法.本算法能够成功地检测出节奏感较强乐曲的节奏,并能跟踪出节奏点的具体位置.     

Search recommendation model based on user search behavior and gradual forgetting collaborative filtering strategy

The existing search engines are lack of the consideration of personalization and display the same search results for different users despite their differences in interesting and purpose.By analyzing user's dynamic search behavior,the paper introduces a new method of using a keyword query graph to express user's dynamic search behavior,and uses Bayesian network to construct the prior probability of keyword selection and the migration probability between keywords for each user.To reflect the dynamic changes of the user's preference,the paper introduces non-lineal gradual forgetting collaborative filtering strategy into the personalized search recommendation model.By calculating the similarity between each two users,the model can do the recommendation based on neighbors and be used to construct the personalized search engine.

Effective mechanism for social recommendation of news

Recommender systems represent an important tool for news distribution on the Internet. In this work we modify a recently proposed social recommendation model in order to deal with no explicit ratings of users on news. The model consists of a network of users which continually adapts in order to achieve an efficient news traffic. To optimize the network’s topology we propose different stochastic algorithms that are scalable with respect to the network’s size. Agent-based simulations reveal the features and the performance of these algorithms. To overcome the resultant drawbacks of each method we introduce two improved algorithms and show that they can optimize the network’s topology almost as fast and effectively as other not-scalable methods that make use of much more information.

Music as Embodied Mathematics: A Study of a Mutually Informing Affinity

The argument examined in this paper is that music – when approached through making and responding to coherent musical structures,facilitated by multiple, intuitively accessible representations – can become a learning context in which basic mathematical ideas can be elicited and perceived as relevant and important. Students' inquiry into the bases for their perceptions of musical coherence provides a path into the mathematics of ratio,proportion, fractions, and common multiples. Ina similar manner, we conjecture that other topics in mathematics – patterns of change,transformations and invariants – might also expose, illuminate and account for more general organizing structures in music. Drawing on experience with 11–12 year old students working in a software music/math environment, we illustrate the role of multiple representations, multi-media, and the use of multiple sensory modalities in eliciting and developing students' initially implicit knowledge of music and its inherent mathematics.
