Synthesis of Homoallylic Alcohols From Ketones in Water

Homoallylic alcohols have been prepared in good yields by allylation of ketones with allyl bromide in the presence of stannous chloride dihydrate, zinc iodide, and ammonium chloride in water.     

Culture,technologies and democracy: A cross-national analysis of political development

Communication technologies have been hailed as having a potential to promote democracy and freedom, and this paper aims to examine these claims in a comparative, international context. Our analysis focuses on the mediating role of horizontal communication networks (i.e., telephone, mobile telephone and the Internet) in the relationship between culture and political development. Using cultural value indicators of the World Values Survey and the measures of communication technology development, this study tests the mediating path from culture to communication technologies and to political development. The results suggest that cultural values have a role in shaping the structural characteristics of horizontal networks such as accessibility and decentralization, and that these features of horizontal networks are positively related to institutional and effective democracy as well as to economic competitiveness of nations.     

Efficient computation of the 2-D Green's function for 1-D periodic line sources in planar multilayered media

Periodic Green's function (PGF) of an infinite 1-D periodic array of line sources in planar multilayered media is calculated by the use of the of the 3-level discrete complex image method (DCIM) together with the surface wave pole (SWP) extraction. The Ewald's method is then applied to accelerate the evaluation of the PGF. The recipe to choose the Ewald's splitting parameter is also given. It is shown that the Ewald's transformation needs a few terms to approximate the PGF with high accuracy. The SWP contributions, which are extracted before the DCIM application, are added to this approximation. The spatial domain surface wave pole contributions are observed to be highly oscillatory and converge to zero. The numerical results are provided to demonstrate the efficiency and the accuracy of the procedure followed.     

Non‐intrusive reduced‐order modeling for multiphase porous media flows using Smolyak sparse grids

In this article, we describe a non‐intrusive reduction method for porous media multiphase flows using Smolyak sparse grids. This is the first attempt at applying such an non‐intrusive reduced‐order modelling (NIROM) based on Smolyak sparse grids to porous media multiphase flows. The advantage of this NIROM for porous media multiphase flows resides in that its non‐intrusiveness, which means it does not require modifications to the source code of full model. Another novelty is that it uses Smolyak sparse grids to construct a set of hypersurfaces representing the reduced‐porous media multiphase problem. This NIROM is implemented under the framework of an unstructured mesh control volume finite element multiphase model. Numerical examples show that the NIROM accuracy relative to the high‐fidelity model is maintained, whilst the computational cost is reduced by several orders of magnitude. Investigation of different liquid media and ablation times on pulsed laser ablation synthesis of aluminum nanoparticles

Aluminum nanoparticles were synthesized by pulsed laser ablation of Al targets in ethanol, acetone, and ethylene glycol. Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM) and Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) images, Particle size distribution diagram from Laser Particle Size Analyzer (LPSA), UV-visible absorption spectra, and weight changes of targets were used for the characterization and comparison of products. The experiments demonstrated that ablation efficiency in ethylene glycol is too low, in ethanol is higher, and in acetone is highest. Comparison between ethanol and acetone clarified that acetone medium leads to finer nanoparticles (mean diameter of 30 nm) with narrower size distribution (from 10 to 100 nm). However, thin carbon layer coats some of them, which was not observed in ethanol medium. It was also revealed that higher ablation time resulted in higher ablated mass, but lower ablation rate. Finer nanoparticles, moreover, were synthesized in higher ablation times.     

一种双路图像融合实时处理系统的设计

提出了一种关于双路图像融合实时处理系统的设计,介绍了融合处理系统的总体架构和系统的功能。对系统的硬件设计和软件设计分别进行了说明,硬件设计对电源设计、采集模块设计和处理模块设计进行了详细阐述;软件部分细致分析了现场可编程门阵列(FPGA)的设计和数字信号处理器(DSP)的设计。最后对处理系统进行了测试,表明该设计满足实时处理的需求。同时,可对系统进行扩展,实现更多路图像的融合处理。     

基于ARM和μC/OS-Ⅱ的车载定位终端的设计

针对当前车载定位终端数据交互实时性差以及程序运行不稳定的问题提出了一种基于ARM处理器和uC/OS-Ⅱ操作系统的车载定位终端的设计方案.在32位高速ARM处理器上移植并应用基于优先级的抢占式实时多任务嵌入式操作系统μC/OS-Ⅱ以实现数据交互的高实时性和运行的可靠性,满足车载定位终端对数据处理速度以及可靠性的要求.     

Social media usage and organizational performance: Reflections of Malaysian social media managers

Social media usage among organizations is growing tremendously. Organizations are now building and maintaining social media public pages to improve their social network salience, enhance interest in their organizations, and build relationships with the online public. The majority of the studies on social media usage are based on the individual perspective while some are from the organizational perspective. However, not many studies have investigated the actual impact of social media usage on organizational performance. Therefore, using the qualitative approach, this study investigates the various purposes of social media usage and its impact on organizational performance. This study however, focuses only on the social media managers’ views. The senior managers of six organizations that are using social media are interviewed from which we find that social media is used for various purposes in organizations, such as advertising and promotion, branding, information search, building customer relations and many more. The results also show that social media has a greater impact on the performance of organizations in terms of enhancement in customer relations and customer service activities, improvement in information accessibility and cost reduction in terms of marketing and customer service.     

基于帕德近似法模拟一般色散媒质电波传播的ADE-FDTD-CPML统一实现方案

为方便一站式处理常见几类各向同性、线性、无磁耗电色散媒质的电波传播问题,提出了一种ADE-FDTD-CPML统一实现方案:一是问题空间和吸收边界的统一处理;二是色散特性的统一建模:适用的媒质类型可以是单一的Havriliak-Negami(H-N)媒质、Davidson-Cole(D-C)媒质、Cole-Cole(C-C)媒质、Debye媒质、常规媒质或其任意组合;媒质属性可以是单极或多极的、有电耗的或无电耗的.该方案利用帕德(Padé)近似法,导出了一组整数阶辅助微分方程(ADEs),既克服了时域描述时遇到的分数阶导数困难,又展现了通用性好、复杂度低等优势.几个一维、三维算例解析、数值结果之间的对比,初步证实了统一实现方案的可行性和有效性.
