The variation with temperature of the charge on the surface of NaCl single crystals has been measured directly by means of vibrating capacitor probe. The charge is negative at room temperature, in agreement with theory based on values of the free energy of vacancy formation, decreases with increase of temperature in two stages to a zero value at the isoelectric temperature, and then becomes positive. Values of isoelectric temperature obtained on surfaces are consistent with those obtained by experiments on charged dislocations, which suggests that surfaces could be used to obtain accurate values of the free energy of formation of cation and anion vacancies. 相似文献

The linewidth of electromagnetically induced transparency(EIT) in a coated Rb vapor cell was studied under a magnetic field gradient.The nonlinear broadening of the EIT linewidth with the magnetic field gradient was observed.It was found that the motional averaging of the field gradient was more pronounced at higher laser intensities and larger beam sizes.In the same regime,there was a small linewidth decrease with the increasing magnetic field gradient.We have established a Monte-Carlo model,which gave results in good qualitative agreement with our experiment.Physics pictures for the above phenomena were also suggested.These results provide an understanding of the EIT linewidth behavior under motional averaging,and should be useful for applications in quantum optics and metrology based on coated vapor cells. 相似文献

This work demonstrates that homogeneous linewidths can be extracted from continuous wave electron paramagnetic resonance spectra and that they quantitatively agree with the predictions of existing relaxation theory. We suggest that relaxation theory can be used to predict experimental lineshapes provided that the simulations properly include sources of broadening. We have found that the rotational correlation times for spin labels in different percentages of glycerol/water mixtures are best modeled by a power law treatment for the viscosity, similar to that for translational diffusion. The translational diffusion coefficients themselves also have a power law dependence on the viscosity for glycerol/water mixtures. The linewidths were linearly dependent upon both the oxygen and the spin label concentration. The hyperfine splittings of all nuclei were observed to decrease linearly with increasing spin label concentration, completely at odds with existing theory which predicts a quadratic dependence upon concentration. The linear dependence was independent of hyperfine splitting until the magnitude of the hyperfine splitting was less than the homogeneous linewidth. 相似文献

We suggest a variant, which has already been implemented, of a selective intracavity laser spectrometer with intracavity nonlinear
optical conversion of the frequency range of generated multimode radiation. The apparatus provides a means for transition
into the UV spectral range (shorter than 300 nm) to carry out direct recording and quantative investigation of strong resonance
lines of atomic absorption, which earlier were beyond the reach of the intracavity method. We measured selective absorption
in spectral lines of a number of metals: FeI 296.690 nm, TiI 294.200 nm, and GaI 287.424 nm.
