Dipole moments of some substituted benzaldehydes. Conformational preference of substituents ortho to the aldehyde group

The dipole moments of a number of substituted benzaldehydes are measured in benzene solution. The angle which the dipole axis of the CHO group makes with the axis of rotation of the group is determined. The observed moments of the ortho-substituted benzaldehydes are compared with the moments calculated for free rotation as well as fors-trans ands-cis orientations of the -CHO group.o-Fluorobenzaldehyde exists mostly in thes-trans conformation.o-Chloro-,o-bromo-ando-nitro-benzaldehydcs also exist in thes-trans conformation; their observed dipole moments are even lower than the values calculated fors-trans forms, indicating mutual induction of the ortho substituents. Though 2,5-dichlorobenzaldehyde is expected to have the same dipole moment as benzaldehyde, the observed moment is significantly lower due to mutual induction of the ortho substituents. 2,5-Dimethylbcnzaldehyde has, however, almost the same moment as benzaldehyde. The dipole moment ofo-methoxybcnzaldchyde is considerably higher than the values calculated for boths-cis ands-trans conformations. An explanation is given for this.o-Hydroxybenzaldehyde exists exclusively in thes-cis form due to internal H-bonding.

A study for quality evaluation of Taxilli Herba from different hosts based on fingerprint-activity relationship modeling and multivariate statistical analysis

In this study, a fingerprint-activity relationship modeling between chemical fingerprints and antirheumatic activity was established, and multivariate statistical analysis was used to evaluate the quality of Taxilli Herba (TH) from different hosts. Characteristic fingerprints of 20 batches of TH samples were generated by high-performance liquid chromatography coupled with triple quadrupole-time of flight tandem mass spectrometry (HPLC-Triple TOF-MS/MS), and the similarity analysis was calculated based on thirteen common characteristic peaks by hierarchical clustering analysis (HCA). Subsequently, nine efficacy markers were discovered by combining fingerprints and antirheumatic activity through grey correlation analysis (GCA) and bivariate correlation analysis (BCA). Meanwhile, the content of 5 constituents in 9 markers was determined by high-performance liquid chromatography coupled with triple quadrupole-linear ion trap tandem mass spectrometry (HPLC-QTRAP-MS/MS). The comprehensive quality of TH was assessed using multivariate statistical analysis, including principal components analysis (PCA) and technique for order preference by similarity to ideal solution (TOPSIS). The results showed that a high dose of TH extract could markedly ameliorate arthritis damage compared to other doses, with flavonoids playing an important role in the antirheumatic activity. The comprehensive quality of samples from Morus alba L. (SS) was superior to those from Liquidambar formosana Hance (FXS). The present study will demonstrate the markers associated with efficacy, and provide an applicable strategy for more comprehensive quality control and evaluation of TH.     

New FIR laser lines and frequency measurements in CD3OD

Twenty-four new submillimeter laser lines in fully deuterated methyl alcohol (CD₃OD) in the wavelength range from 52 to 328 m have been obtained in a Fabry-Perot FIR resonator by optically pumping the methanol with a cw CO₂ laser. We have made accurate wavelength measurements and have determined the relative polarization of most of the known CD₃OD laser lines. The frequencies of 13 of the strongest lines were also measured.Contribution of the U.S. Government, not subject to copyright.     

高频介质系统介电性能与相组成的定量关系分析

采用普通电子陶瓷工艺制备两种高频介质系统ZnO-B2O3-SiO2三元系和BaO-PbO-Nd2O3-Bi2O3-TiO2五元系,通过XRD分析确定各系统的主晶相, 运用衍射峰强度计算法准确测定出各组分的体积百分含量,并代入Lichnetecker对数混合定则,计算出系统的介电性能,获得了分析介质系统介电性能与物相含量之间定量关系的新方法.     

外腔长度对FBG-ECL输出特性的影响

根据光纤光栅外腔半导体激光器(FBG-ECL)的等效腔模型,讨论了外腔长度对FBG-ECL的调制特性、线宽以及强度噪声的影响.指出增大外腔长度可以使FBG-ECL具有很窄的线宽,非常适合应用在相干光通信系统中.同时发现,外腔长度的增大也将导致强度噪声、调制特性的恶化,外腔的选择对FBG-ECL应用在不同光通信系统中十分重要.     

高斯光束经波长级圆孔衍射的轴上光强特性

基于横截面上精确表述的光强和精确的衍射场公式 ,对高斯光束经波长级圆孔衍射的轴上光强特性进行了研究。结果表明 ,高斯衍射光束的轴上光强特性取决于初始高斯半宽度w0 和波长级圆孔的孔径R。对于w0 /R≥ 1的高斯衍射光束 ,轴上光强存在的极值个数和出现的位置仅由比值m=2R/λ决定 ,最大的轴上光强均出现在N =R2 / (λz) =1的地方 ;至于轴上光强极值的峰和谷明显与否 ,取决于w0 /R的比值 ,比值越大 ,轴上光强极值的峰和谷就越明显。当w0 /R的比值足够大时 ,就趋向于平面波入射时的情形。而对于w0 /R<1的这一类高斯衍射光束 ,轴上光强存在特定的演化规律 :随着初始高斯半宽度的减小 ,轴上光强极值个数逐步减少直至全部消失。     

SINGLE AND DOUBLE EDGE INTERFACE CRACK SOLUTIONS FOR ARBITRARY FORMS OF MATERIAL COMBINATION

In this paper interfacial edge crack problems are considered by the application of the finite element method. The stress intensity factors are accurately determined from the ratio of crack-tip-stress value between the target given unknown and reference problems. The reference problem is chosen to produce the singular stress fields proportional to those of the given unknown problem. Here the original proportional method is improved through utilizing very refined meshes and post-processing technique of linear extrapolation. The results for a double-edge interface crack in a bonded strip are newly obtained and compared with those of a single-edge interface crack for different forms of combination of material. It is found that the stress intensity factors should be compared in the three different zones of relative crack lengths. Different from the case of a cracked homogeneous strip, the results for the double edge interface cracks are found to possibly be bigger than those for a single edge interface crack under the same relative crack length.

A novel video abstraction method based on fast clustering of the regions of interest in key frames

Online video nowadays has become one of the top activities for users and has become easy to access. In the meantime, how to manage such huge amount of video data and retrieve them efficiently has become a big issue. In this article, we propose a novel method for video abstraction based on fast clustering of the regions of interest (ROIs). Firstly, the key-frames in each shot are extracted using the average histogram algorithm. Secondly, the saliency and edge maps are generated from each key-frame. According to these two maps, the key points for the visual attention model can be determined. Meanwhile, in order to expand the regions surrounding the key points, several thresholds are calculated from the corresponding key-frame. Thirdly, based on the key points and thresholds, several regions of interest are expanded and thus the main content in each frame is obtained. Finally, the fast clustering method is performed on the key frames by utilizing their ROIs. The performance and effectiveness of the proposed video abstraction algorithm is demonstrated by several experimental results.
