Independence and hamiltonicity in 3-domination-critical graphs

Let δ, γ, i and α be respectively the minimum degree, the domination number, the independent domination number and the independence number of a graph G. The graph G is 3-γ-critical if γ = 3 and the addition of any edge decreases γ by 1. It was conjectured that any connected 3-γ-critical graph satisfies i = γ, and is hamiltonian if δ ≥ 2. We show here that every connected 3-γ-critical graph G with γ ≥ 2 satisfies α ≤ δ + 2; if α = δ + 2 then i = γ; while if α ≤ δ + 1 then G is hamiltonian. © 1997 Wiley & Sons, Inc. Bounded Scott Set Saturation

We examine the relationship between two different notions of a structure being Scott set saturated and identify sufficient conditions which guarantee that a structure is uniquely Scott set saturated. We also consider theories representing Scott sets; in particular, we identify a sufficient condition on a theory T so that for any given countable Scott set there exists a completion of T that is saturated with respect to the given Scott set. These results extend Scott's characterization of countable Scott sets via models and completions of Peano arithmetic.     

Properties of Algebraic Equations on the Set of E-Functions over the Field of Rational Functions

The paper presents several theorems on the linear and algebraic independence of the values at algebraic points of the set of E-functions related by algebraic equations over the field of rational functions, as well as some estimates of the absolute values of polynomials with integer coefficients in the values of such functions. The results are obtained by using the properties of ideals in the ring of polynomials of several variables formed by equations relating the above functions over the field of rational functions.

Dependence Relations Among the Shifts of a Multivariate Refinable Distribution

Refinable functions are an intrinsic part of subdivision schemes and wavelet constructions. The relevant properties of such functions must usually be determined from their refinement masks. In this paper, we provide a characterization of linear independence for the shifts of a multivariate refinable vector of distributions in terms of its (finitely supported) refinement mask.
