A FUNDAMENTAL SOLUTION FOR THE LAPLACE OPERATOR ON THE QUATERNIONIC HEISENBERG GROUP

In this paper, the author studies the Laplace operator on the quaternionic Heisenberg group, construct a fundamental solution for it and use this solution to prove the Lp-boundedness and the weak (1-1) boundedness of certain singular convolution operators on the quaternionic Heisenberg group.     

拉曼放大器中放大的自发拉曼散射与拉曼开-关增益关系的研究

研究了拉曼放大器中放大的自发拉曼散射对拉曼开－关增益的影响，并提出了一种利用自发拉曼散射谱来调整拉曼放大器位曼开－关增益平坦的方法，实验采用4个波长为14xx nm的激光二极管作为抽运源，75km的G．652光纤作为传输介质，获得了C波段附近的光放大，同时对此给出了合理的理论解释。     

The Linear Fokker-Planck Equation for the Ornstein-Uhlenbeck Process as an (Almost) Nonlinear Kinetic Equation for an Isolated N-Particle System

It is long known that the Fokker-Planck equation with prescribed constant coefficients of diffusion and linear friction describes the ensemble average of the stochastic evolutions in velocity space of a Brownian test particle immersed in a heat bath of fixed temperature. Apparently, it is not so well known that the same partial differential equation, but now with constant coefficients which are functionals of the solution itself rather than being prescribed, describes the kinetic evolution (in the N→∞ limit) of an isolated N-particle system with certain stochastic interactions. A Modified Quasi-Newton Method for Structured Optimization with Partial Information on the Hessian

This paper develops a modified quasi-Newton method for structured unconstrained optimization with partial information on the Hessian, based on a better approximation to the Hessian in current search direction. The new approximation is decided by both function values and gradients at the last two iterations unlike the original one which only uses the gradients at the last two iterations. The modified method owns local and superlinear convergence. Numerical experiments show that the proposed method is encouraging comparing with the methods proposed in [4] for structured unconstrained optimization Presented at the 6th International Conference on Optimization: Techniques and Applications, Ballarat, Australia, December 9–11, 2004     

Optimal entropic uncertainty relation for successive measurements in quantum information theory

We derive an optimal bound on the sum of entropic uncertainties of two or more observables when they are sequentially measured on the same ensemble of systems. This optimal bound is shown to be greater than or equal to the bounds derived in the literature on the sum of entropie uncertainties of two observables which are measured on distinct but identically prepared ensembles of systems. In the case of a two-dimensional Hilbert space, the optimum bound for successive measurements of two-spin components, is seen to be strictly greater than the optimal bound for the case when they are measured on distinct ensembles, except when the spin components are mutually parallel or perpendicular     

Stationary entanglement between macroscopic mechanical oscillators

We show that the optomechanical coupling between an optical cavity mode and two movable cavity mirrors is able to entangle two different macroscopic oscillation modes of the mirrors. This continuous variable entanglement is maintained by the light bouncing between the mirrors and is robust against thermal noise. In fact, it could be experimentally demonstrated using present technology. Received 2 September 2002 / Received in final form 10 October 2002 Published online 7 January 2003     

Uniformity in Computable Structure Theory

We investigate the effects of adding uniformity requirements to concepts in computable structure theory such as computable categoricity (of a structure) and intrinsic computability (of a relation on a computable structure). We consider and compare two different notions of uniformity, previously studied by Kudinov and by Ventsov. We discuss some of their results and establish new ones, while also exploring the connections with the relative computable structure theory of Ash, Knight, Manasse, and Slaman and Chisholm and with previous work of Ash, Knight, and Slaman on uniformity in a general computable structure-theoretical setting.     

Chern and Pontryagin Numbers in Perfect Symmetries of Spheres

The paper presents a procedure for constructing smooth actions of finite perfect groups on spheres with fixed point sets having certain prescribed properties (Theorem A); in particular, having any prescribed configuration of Chern and Pontryagin numbers (Corollary C). The main ingredients used are equivariant thickening and equivariant surgery.
