In this paper we present analytical expressions for the lower bounds of the error performance of dual-hop amplify-and-forward transmissions over independent and not necessarily identical Generalized-K fading channels. Using a tight upper bound for the end-to-end SNR, a novel expression for the probability density function is derived. Based on the abovementioned formula, tight lower bounds for the average bit error probability for a variety of modulation schemes are derived. In order to validate the accuracy of the proposed mathematical analysis, various numerical and computer simulation results are presented.  相似文献

Efficient resource management is mandatory to achieve maximum system capacity for next generation communications systems. Resource management deals with the available spectral band, time, power, and space for a transmission signal. It includes (i) the frequency planning, (ii) the selection of transmit power, and (iii) the assignment of the channels and access nodes to the users. The paper presents a generalized notation as well as graph algorithms for resource management problems. Impairment graphs can be used for frequency planning, whereas flow graphs are suitable for channel access problems. To evaluate the performance of the resource management, service criteria (such as blocking or the carrier to interference ratio C/I) or efficiency criteria (bandwidth requirements) can be derived from the graphs. The resource management techniques are applied to satellite networks with non‐geostationary orbits yielding time‐variant network topologies. As a simple example, the channel assignment and capacity optimization of the EuroSky Way system are shown. Furthermore, a comparison of fixed, dynamic and hybrid channel allocation schemes (FCA, DCA, HCA) for a typical MEO satellite scenario is given. Satellite diversity and its impact on bandwidth requirement and transmission quality is also examined. Finally, it is shown how spread spectrum systems can be investigated with the presented tools. Introduced in 1993, turbo codes can achieve high coding gains close to the Shannon limit. In order to design power and bandwidth‐efficient coding schemes, several approaches have been introduced to combine high coding rate turbo codes with multilevel modulations. The coding systems thus obtained have been shown to display near‐capacity performance over additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) channels. For communications over fading channels requiring large coding gain and high bandwidth efficiency, it is also interesting to study bit error rate (BER) performance of turbo codes combined with high order rectangular QAM modulations. To this end, we investigate, in this paper, error performance of several bandwidth‐efficient schemes designed using the bit‐interleaved coded modulation approach that has proven potentially very attractive when powerful codes, such as turbo codes, are employed. The structure of these coding schemes, termed ‘bit‐interleaved turbo‐coded modulations’ (BITCMs), is presented in a detailed manner and their BER performance is investigated for spectral efficiencies ranging from 2 to 7 bit/s/Hz. Computer simulation results indicate that BITCMs can achieve near‐capacity performance over Rayleigh fading channels, for all spectral efficiencies considered throughout the paper. It is also shown that the combination of turbo coding and rectangular QAM modulation with Gray mapping constitutes inherently a very powerful association, since coding and modulation functions are both optimized for operation in the same signal‐to‐noise ratio region. This means that no BER improvement is obtainable by employing any other signal constellation in place of the rectangular ones. Finally, the actual influence of the interleaving and mapping functions on error performance of BITCM schemes is discussed. Copyright © 2002 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

In this paper we evaluate the error performance of wireless communication systems using M-branch maximal ratio combining (MRC) with multiple cochannel interference. Three cochannel interference models are considered: (A) L independent identically distributed (i.i.d.) Nakagami-m cochannel interferers; (B) L independent cochannel interferers consisting of L-N Nakagami-m interferers and N Rayleigh interferers; (C) L independent cochannel interferers in which each interferer follows Nakagami-m distribution for a fraction of time and Rayleigh distribution for the remaining time. In addition, the desired signal assumes Nakagami-m fading. This paper considers that an exponential correlation model is assumed for the desired signals received on each branch, while the interferers are assumed independent. Closed-form expressions are derived for the probability density functions (PDFs) of the instantaneous signal-to-interference power ratio (SIR) at the output of the MRC for the three interference models. Using these SIR PDFs, further closed-form expressions to evaluate the outage probability (OTP) and the average bit error probability (BEP) of differential phase-shift keying (DPSK) are derived. Numerical results showing the impacts of the system parameters on the OTP and the average BEP are then presented.  相似文献

Coherent demodulation results in good detection performance but requires channel estimation. Fading pre-compensation (precoding) at the transmitter can lead to low-complex receiver structures with good performance capabilities, without the need for channel estimation. Time division duplex systems based on orthogonal frequency division multiplex (OFDM) are particularly suited to this because intersymbol interference effects can be neglected, simplifying transmitter adjustments. Methods that involve amplitude and/or phase pre-compensation are compared in terms of resulting bit error rate and increase in peak-to-average power ratio. Dynamic channels degrade the performance as the block lengths get longer. For a certain block length the performance degrades below that of traditional differential decoding. A block length of up to 40 times that used in the Digital European Cordless Telephone system, DECT, is possible using channel estimation and ideal Wiener prediction.  相似文献

In low signal‐to‐noise ratio (SNR) cases, the performance of spectrum sensing algorithms cannot meet the practical needs, which is a major problem faced by spectrum sensing technology in current cognitive radio field. Now, existing algorithms based on random matrix theory (RMT) have high sensing performance, but they require a large number of samples, which are very difficult to satisfy in practice. Free probability theory (FPT) is a main branch of RMT. It describes the asymptotic behavior of large random matrices and portrays a strong link between two matrices and their sum or product matrices. FPT can also be utilized to the digital communication system that can be modeled by random matrices and has been applied to spectrum sensing in simplified ideal channels, for example, additive white Gaussian noise channel. The most pivotal issue and difficulty of the FPT‐based methods is to set up and solve the asymptotic freeness equation corresponding to a specific communication model. In this paper, FPT‐based spectrum sensing schemes are proposed for some typical wireless communication systems, such as multiple‐input multiple‐output system, Rayleigh multipath fading system, and orthogonal frequency division multiplexing system. It is shown that the asymptotic freeness behavior of random matrices and the property of Wishart distribution can be used to assist spectrum sensing for these typical systems with low SNR and very limited samples. Simulation results demonstrate that compared with the existing RMT‐based spectrum detection methods, for example, the maximum and minimum eigenvalue detectors, the proposed FPT‐based schemes offer superior detection performance and are more robust to low SNR cases, especially for a small sample of observations. This paper studies the behavior of the low‐complexity switch‐and‐examine diversity combining (SEC) and switch‐and‐examine diversity combining with post‐examine selection (SECps) antenna selection schemes with interference. In this paper, we first derive the cumulative distribution function (CDF) of the end‐to‐end (e2e) signal‐to‐interference plus noise ratio at the selection scheme combiner output. This CDF is then used to derive closed‐form expressions for the e2e outage and symbol error probabilities for the independent nonidentically distributed and independent identically distributed cases of diversity branches. In the analysis, the channels of the desired user and the interferers are assumed to follow Rayleigh distribution. Furthermore, to have more details about the system insights, the performance is evaluated at the high signal‐to‐noise ratio (SNR) values where the diversity order and coding gain are derived and analyzed. The derived analytical and asymptotic results are validated via a comparison with Monte‐Carlo simulations. Main findings show that with interference power does not scale with average SNR; the system can still achieve performance gain when more receive antennas are used. This happens at the values of switching threshold that are close to average SNR. Also, results illustrate that the interference is noticeably affecting the gain achieved in system performance when more antennas are used. Furthermore, findings show that the SECps selection scheme outperforms the conventional SEC scheme when more antennas are added with the switching threshold is much larger than the average SNR. Finally, findings show that the SEC and SECps antenna selection schemes are efficient for systems which operate at the range of low SNR values and this makes them attractive candidates to be implemented in the emerging mobile broadband communication systems. In this paper, the authors derived the analytical bit error rate expressions for orthogonal frequency division multiple access and single‐carrier frequency‐division multiple access (SC‐FDMA) in Rayleigh slow‐fading channel for binary phase‐shift keying/quadrature phase‐shift keying/16‐quadrature amplitude modulations under pilot jamming and pilot symbol‐assisted channel estimation. Beginning with the bit error rate analysis from the general case of pilot symbol‐assisted channel estimation technique in Rayleigh slow‐fading channel, the expressions are first modified for different modulations and then further customized to account for the Zero‐Forcing equalization in frequency or time direction with application respectively to orthogonal frequency division multiple access or SC‐FDMA without and with pilot jamming. Piecewise‐linear interpolation is used for its simplicity. The simulation results match perfectly with the theoretical predictions except for some discrepancies with SC‐FDMA, which imply that the generalized equations developed here have to be further modified to account for system‐specific features like discrete Fourier transform precoding for SC‐FDMA. 移动通信过程中由于移动设备所处的环境不同,存在不同的信道衰落,从各种衰落模型的相互关系出发,提出了一种移动无线衰落信道混合应用模型。通过实现瑞利衰落分布和对数正态分布,经线性和非线性变换可以得到Nakagami和Suzuki等分布。对提出的复合衰落模型进行仿真,仿真结果符合理论值。该混合衰落模型设计和仿真方法可以用于指导信道模拟器设计和通信系统仿真。  相似文献
