A general analysis of special classes of symmetric two-tensor on Riemannian manifolds is provided. These tensors arise in connection with special topics in differential geometry and analytical mechanics: geodesic equivalence and separation of variables. It is shown that they play an important role in the theory of correspondent (or equivalent) dynamical systems of Levi-Civita. By applying some new developments of this theory, it is shown that the recent notions of cofactor and cofactor-pair systems arise in a natural way, as non-Lagrangian systems having a Lagrangian equivalent. This circumstance extends the Hamiltonian methods, including the separation of variables of the Hamilton–Jacobi equation, to a special class of nonconservative systems. In this extension the case of indefinite metrics, may occur. Hence, it is shown that also pseudo-Riemannian geometry plays an important role also in classical mechanics.Research sponsored by the Dept. of Mathematics, University of Turin, and by INDAM-GNFM.  相似文献

The short-time behavior of the vibrational-energy-time correlation function (VECF) is studied both theoretically and numerically for a one-dimensional model of diatomic molecules with harmonic intramolecular and hard intermolecular interactions. In the equipartition regime, the short-time expansion of the VECF is independent of the vibrational frequency and agrees with statistical mechanics.  相似文献

In 1981 Bunimovich and Sinai established the statistical properties of the planar periodic Lorentz gas with finite horizon. Our aim is to extend their theory to the multidimensional Lorentz gas. In that case the Markov partitions of the Bunimovich-Sinai type, the main tool of their theory, are not available. We use a crude approximation to such partitions, which we call Markov sieves. Their construction in many dimensions is essentially different from that in two dimensions; it requires more routine calculations and intricate arguments. We try to avoid technical details and outline the construction of the Markov sieves in mostly qualitative, heuristic terms, hoping to carry out our plan in full detail elsewhere. Modulo that construction, our proofs are conclusive. In the end, we obtain a stretched-exponential bound for the decay of correlations, the central limit theorem, and Donsker's Invariance Principle for multidimensional periodic Lorentz gases with finite horizon.  相似文献

It has been found that some nonlinear wave equations have one-loop soliton solutions. What is the dynamical behavior of the so-called one-loop soliton solution? To answer this question, the travelling wave solutions for four nonlinear wave equations are discussed. Exact explicit parametric representations of some special travelling wave solutions are given. The results of this paper show that a loop solution consists of three different breaking travelling wave solutions. It is not one real loop soliton travelling wave solution.  相似文献

In this paper, the problem of the robust stabilization for a class of uncertain linear dynamical systems with time-varying delay is considered. By making use of an algebraic Riccati equation, we derive some sufficient conditions for robust stability of time-varying delay dynamical systems with unstructured or structured uncertainties. In our approach, the only restriction on the delay functionh(t) is the knowledge of its upper boundh . Some analytical methods are employed to investigate these stability conditions. Since these conditions are independent of the delay, our results are also applicable to systems with perturbed time delay. Finally, a numerical example is given to illustrate the use of the sufficient conditions developed in this paper.  相似文献

We analyse the properties of a particular birational mapping of two variables (Cremona transformation) depending on two free parameters ( and ), associated with the action of a discrete group of non-linear (birational) transformations on the entries of a q × q matrix. This mapping originates from the analysis of birational transformations obtained from very simple algebraic calculations, namely taking the inverse of q × q matrices and permuting some of the entries of these matrices. It has been seen to yield weak chaos and integrability. We have found new integrable cases of this Cremona transformation, corresponding to the values of = 0 when , besides the already known values = 0 and = −1, and also arbitrary when = 0. For these cases, one has a foliation of the parameter space in elliptic curves. We give the equations of these elliptic curves. Based on this very example we show how one can find these integrability cases of the Cremona transformation and actually integrate it using a method based on the systematic study of the finite-order conditions of the Cremona transformation. The method is shown to be efficient and straightforward. The various integrability cases are revisited using many different representations of this very mapping (birational transformations, recursion in one variable, …).  相似文献

In this paper, a new and simple approach whereby we derive several sufficient conditions on robust stabilizability for a class of uncertain dynamical systems with time delay is presented. Some analytical methods and the Bellman-Gronwall inequality are employed to investigate these sufficient conditions. The notable features of the results obtained are their simplicity in testing the stability of uncertain dynamical systems with time delay and their clarity in giving insight into system analysis. Finally, several numerical examples are given to demonstrate the utilization of the results.The authors would like to acknowledge the many helpful comments provided by the reviewer.
