Interdisciplinary design optimization: A search method

The design of architectural structures frequently involves interdisciplinary aspects and aesthetic considerations which, being of subjective nature, are difficult to quantify. The computer-aided design optimization model presented here, therefore, is an attempt to optimize, in an interdisciplinary context, quantifiable parameters only. The objective function is graphically illustrated to give the designer a means to evaluate the impact of esoteric design decisions on performance variables, such as costs. A search method is used, i.e., evaluation of a discrete number of designs and nonlinear interpolation. The model's system of computer programs is demonstrated on the sample of an anticlastic cable roof structure.This paper contains excerpts from Refs. 1–2.

在几种典型的气象中，分别对两种结构不同的自承式架空光缆进行了力学性能分析。在大跨距条件下用悬链法计算了光缆的相对伸长量与增强层厚度的关系曲线。其结果对架空光缆的优化设计与生产有重要的指导意义。

AC coupling losses in superconducting multistage cables with and without additional co-twisted copper strands

A simple technique is proposed to evaluate interstrand AC coupling losses deposed in superconducting multistage cables under low excitation of the transverse homogeneous time-varying magnetic field. The technique uses the superposition of the solutions for the induced coupling currents and interstrand or intersubcable AC losses in pairs of strands or subcables, constituting a multistage cable. The technique is valid under assumption of no resistance offered by strands and subcables for the longitudinal currents. The method allows one also to take into account the effect of additional co-twisted pure copper strands or subcables.
