The calculations of quasi‐three‐dimensional momentum equations were carried out to study the influence of wall rotation on the characteristics of an impinging jet. The pressure coefficient, the mean velocity distributions and the components of Reynolds stress are calculated. The flow is assumed to be steady, incompressible and turbulent. The finite volume scheme is used to solve the continuity equation, momentum equations and k–ε model equations. The flow characteristics were studied by varying rotation speed ω for 0?ω?167.6 rad/s, the distance from nozzle to disk (H/d) was (3, 5, 8 and 10) and the Reynolds number Re base on VJ and d was 1.45 × 104. The results showed that, the radial velocity and turbulence intensity increase by increasing the rotation speed and decrease in the impingement zone as nozzle to disk spacing increases. When the centrifugal force increases, the radial normal stresses and shear stresses increase. The location of maximum radial velocity decreases as the local velocity ratio (α) increases. The pressure coefficient depends on the centrifugal force and it decreases as the distance from nozzle to plate increases. In impingement zone and radial wall jet, the spread of flow increases as the angular velocity decreases The numerical results give good agreement with the experiment data of Minagawa and Obi (Int. The newly-raised problem as to whether our Galaxy may contain a thick disk population component has aroused great interest. But up until now no conclusion has been reached unanimously for lack of observed data. Here this problem is discussed based on seven Basel field data calibrated recently and strong evidence is provided. In this paper, a dual-beam normal incidence polarisation interferometer is proposed to measure the flying height or head–disk spacing. Using this interferometer, the head–disk spacing can be measured both in magnetic real disk condition and in glass disk condition. It has the advantage of both the currently popular intensity interferometry method and the oblique incidence polarisation interferometry method. With this polarisation interferometer, not only the flying height can be measured down to contact without losing accuracy, but the pitch and roll of the head-slider can also be detected dynamically. The dynamics of vortex matter in mesoscopic superconducting Corbino disk is strongly influenced by the discrete vortex structure arranged in shells. While in previous works the vortex dynamics has been studied in large (macroscopic) and in very small mesoscopic disks (containing only few shells), in the intermediate-size regime it is much more complex and unusual, due to: (i) the competition between the vortex–vortex interaction and confinement and (ii) (in)commensurability among the vortex shells. We found that the interplay between these effects can result in a very unusual vortex dynamical behavior: (i) unconventional angular melting (i.e., propagating from the boundary, where the shear stress is minimum, towards the center) and (ii) unconventional dynamics of shells (i.e., the inversion of shell velocities with respect to the gradient driving force).
