This paper addresses the problem of power control in a multihop wireless network supporting multicast traffic. We face the problem of forwarding packet traffic to multicast group members while meeting constraints on the signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) at the intended receivers. First, we present a distributed algorithm which, given the set of multicast senders and their corresponding receivers, provides an optimal solution when it exists, which minimizes the total transmit power. When no optimal solution can be found for the given set of multicast senders and receivers, we introduce a distributed, joint scheduling and power control algorithm which eliminates the weak connections and tries to maximize the number of successful multicast transmissions. The algorithm allows the other senders to solve the power control problem and minimize the total transmit power. We show that our distributed algorithm converges to the optimal solution when it exists, and performs close to centralized, heuristic algorithms that have been proposed to address the joint scheduling and power control problem. 相似文献

The paper evaluates the performance effects of exposed terminals in IEEE 802.11 ad hoc networks in finite load conditions. It derives analytical models for the estimation of channel utilization and media access delay for IEEE 802.11 ad hoc networks in finite load conditions with and without exposed terminals. The simulation results show that the analytical estimated channel utilization and media access delay metrics are fairly accurate. 相似文献

The area covered by a mobile ad hoc network consists of obstacles that inhibit transmission and areas where communications
can take place. Physical structures, such as buildings, that block transmission, or lakes, where forwarding nodes cannot be
located, are permanent obstacles. Temporary obstacles are created as mobile nodes enter or leave an area. Our hypothesis is
that the spaces between nearby obstacles are bottlenecks that inhibit the flows in the network. We partition the network into
areas that are encompassed by obstacles and bottlenecks. All of the nodes in an area are treated as a single super node, and
the bottlenecks between areas are the links between the super nodes. As individual nodes move, the flows and paths in the
model change more slowly than the paths and flows between the individual nodes. We apply flow control algorithms to the model
and perform admission control within a super node based on the flows that are assigned by the flow control algorithm. We apply
the model to the Columbia University campus, and use max–min, fair bottleneck flow control to assign the flows. Our hypothesis

Many potential applications of Mobile Ad Hoc Networks (MANETs) involve group communications among the nodes. Multicasting is an useful operation that facilitates group communications. Efficient and scalable multicast routing in MANETs is a difficult issue. In addition to the conventional multicast routing algorithms, recent protocols have adopted the following new approaches: overlays, backbone-based, and stateless. In this paper, we study these approaches from the protocol state management point of view, and compare their scalability behaviors.To enhance performance and enable scalability, we have proposed a framework for hierarchical multicasting in MANET environments. Two classes of hierarchical multicasting approaches, termed as domain-based and overlay-driven, are proposed. We have considered a variety of approaches that are suitable for different scenarios such as multicast group sizes and number of groups.
