This paper describes a millimeter wave frequency synthesizer based on a single broadband backward wave oscillator tube which is capable of covering the entire 40–60 GHz waveguide band with useful power output, low phase noise, and rapid frequency switching. The synthesizer is controlled by an internal microcomputer which sets the reference oscillator frequency through a General Purpose Interface Bus (GPIB) and generates synthesizer coarse tuning corrections through a programmable digital-to-analog converter. The theory of molecules in molecules introduced in previous articles is applied to study the hydrogen bonding interaction between an ammonia molecule as proton acceptor and a water molecule as proton donor. The localized orbitals which are assumed to be least affected by the formation of the hydrogen bond are transferred unaltered from calculations on the fragments NH3 and H2O, the remaining orbitals are recalculated. A projection operator is used to obtain orthogonality to the transferred orbitals. Additional approximations have been introduced in order to be able to save computational time. These approximations can be justified and are seen to lead to binding energies and bond lengths which are in satisfactory agreement with the SCF values. The point charge approximation for the calculation of the interaction energy between the two sets of transferred localized orbitals is, however, not applicable in this case. An energy analysis of the effect of the hydrogen bond on the localized orbitals of the two fragments is given. 相似文献

The Rayleigh wave, that propagates at the free surface of semi-infinite anisotropic medium, is composed of three inhomogeneous partial waves, each propagating along the surface with a different attenuation along the depth. Since this wave does not exhibit an attenuation on the surface, let us call it the homogeneous Rayleigh wave. The associated slowness corresponds to the real solution of the Rayleigh dispersion equation. Besides this classical solution, an infinite number of complex solutions of the Rayleigh dispersion equation exits. For such particular Rayleigh waves, the slowness vector, i.e. the identical component on the surface of the slowness of each partial waves, is taken to be complex. Thus, these Rayleigh waves are attenuated on the surface and as shown here, their attenuation is normal to the ray direction (or the energy velocity direction). Similarly to the infinite inhomogeneous plane waves which can be associated with complex rays, we call these waves, inhomogeneous Rayleigh waves. We use the inhomogeneous skimming waves, which are inhomogeneous plane waves, and the inhomogeneous Rayleigh waves to explain differently the usual diffraction phenomena on the free surface which cannot be explained by the real ray theory. For example, the arrival time of the wave packet observed beyond the cusp is in perfect accordance with the arrival time of some specific inhomogeneous Rayleigh waves. We show that these results are in agreement with the computation of the Green function. They apply to the theory of surface waves in linear elastodynamics with intrinsic anisotropy as well as to the theory of surface waves in linearised (incremental) elastodynamics with strain-induced anisotropy (also known as small-amplitude waves superimposed on the large static homogeneous deformation of a non-linear solid). 相似文献

The effect of viscosity on dispersion of capillary-gravity waves becomes significant when the attenuation coefficient is greater than about 2.5% of the wave number. For low viscosity fluids such as water this condition is met at frequencies greater than about 5 kHz in which case direct measurement of wavelength is difficult. For higher viscosity fluids the effect appears at much lower frequencies but direct measurement of wavelength becomes difficult since viscosity causes severe attenuation of surface waves. We have overcome the measurement difficulties by using a new miniature laser interferometer, which directly measures the wavelength of standing capillary waves with the requisite precision to yield reliable dispersion data for viscous fluids. Here we review the effect of viscosity on the dispersion relation and present new experimental data on dispersion of capillary waves in several water-glycerol mixtures. Our data provides direct experimental verification of the theoretical analysis. 相似文献

We investigate the elastic wave propagation within a non-homogeneous continuum according to W. Noll. After some preliminaries in geometry approach suggested by E. Cartan, the linear momentum equation of so-called weakly continuous medium is written. A first example illustrates the modal analysis of an axisymmetric non-homogeneous thick tube. The overall solution is the product of an attenuating exponential response with Kummer?s functions. The second example deals with a Timoshenko beam involving transversal displacement and angular rotation of section. We observe the presence of various waves with spatial attenuation, either for the displacement or the section rotation, together with the occurring waves at different scale levels. 相似文献

The vibration modelling of waveguide structures is considered. These structures comprise waveguides connected via joints. Traditionally, analytical models of the wave behaviour of such structures can be developed if they are simple (beams or rods connected at point joints, etc.). However, if the waveguides are of complicated constructions (truss-like, layered media, etc.) or the joints are complicated (e.g. of significant physical dimensions), obtaining the wave characteristics might be a formidable task. In this paper, such structures are modelled using a hybrid finite element/wave and finite element (FE/WFE) approach. The waveguides are modelled using the WFE method and thus their wave characteristics are obtained regardless of the complexity of their cross-section. The joints are modelled using standard FE, and the WFE and FE models are coupled to yield the scattering properties of the joints. The propagation and scattering models are assembled to describe the behaviour of the structure using relatively small models, while also providing information for other applications such as structure-borne sound, statistical energy analysis, etc. Numerical examples are presented to illustrate the approach. 相似文献
